1971 CB500 Rear Set Solutions

"Man is born free, and he is everywhere in chains"
I want to make the plunge into rear sets. I've searched all over and have seen, and read different results; to no satisfaction.

I find, a rear foot position to not only be more comfortable, but it allows for better handling with a more aggressive/ race set-up like I have. I've put my feet on the rear passenger pegs and it feels better than the driver peg position but it seems like the weight distribution is off. It makes the bike feel, almost, too nimble, as if there's no counter weight (maybe it's something I would need to get use to).

I've heard you want your feet right up under your ass and most of your weight where the swing arm is. What I'm getting at is, a half way point would probably be ideal. I'm no fabricator, but could figure something out if I had to.

Here are my questions:

Has anyone used the passenger pegs as a mounting position? If so, how do you feel about the weight distribution?
Has anyone found great and easy-to-do solutions for cb500 rear set mounting?

Show me your pics, tell me your stories, I want it all.

Thanks

My personal 500. Though, I have made adjustments to the rearsets that I sell since these were built in 07.

I didn't like to tell people about it since CB400F parts are getting harder and harder to come by, but since I've got a little pile of em now here goes: CB400F pegs will fit on CB500 and CB550 fours, as well as CB350F. You might have exhaust interference, especially if you are running stock 4-4 pipes. The pegs on the CB400F are behind where they mount, whereas the others mentioned are forward of where they mount. This moves your pegs back about 6 inches. The CB400F linkage for the shifter bolts right up and is a piece of cake, figuring out a shorter brake pedal for the other side can be trickier, although I use a CB400F brake lever on my CB350F, and used one on a CB550. Because of the stock 4-1 exhaust on a CB400F, the brake lever sticks out a bit more, but it'll work. Or you can look for other models with shorter levers.

It's a nice riding position, somewhere in between racing rear sets and stock. And they look factory -- because they are! -- if you care about that. LAst time I got a set of pegs on fleabay they were around $40, and I got a brake lever for around $30 from a yard. Now don't tell anyone.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll keep your secret safe.

If I'm following you guys, my options are either mount onto the passenger tabs, go 400 and mount to regular position (but will still be set further back due to stock positioning of 400f pegs), or fabricate a mounting bracket like J-Rod10?

Thanks again guys.
