I must admit this bike is kinda heading in a different direction than I had originally intended, It started out as a simple clean bobbed R5. Then I decided to add the rear fender. Then i found an old set of Cushman crash bars (will post pics once I find my good camera) and I never intended to paint it. Well now its more of a bobbed half-assed hard tail cruiser thing with a bad ass obnoxious intake and it needs a paint job to match. So last night after a lot of Ol' Mill Light i decided to paint it. All I could find in the garage was a little bit of black Rustolem and a cheap brush. The beer must have clouded my judgment more than I thought because I ended up with this.

I think I can make it better once I get some more paint . The runs should sand out. If not I found some Red oxide primer and a roller so I may try that tomorrow. If I do I probably do it BEFORE I finish the entire 12 pack.

ha ha ha personally on bikes like this i like a BLING paint job... may want to look at mooneyes new flake rattle can i thnk it would fit nicely.. withthe crash bar man watch your lean angles on the bike with as low as it is, dont want to lean and hit the bar

No bling here, and the bars are high enough they wont hit the ground. I tried some Red primer on the tank and fender with a little grey primer for contrast. I think i should have tried taking the dents out and sanding it first . It doesnt look THAT bad Once its dry I think Ill spray some charcoal paint on top, It should hide all the runs and dents.

Is it color matched to that power cord? haha. I totaly get the rat bike/cheap build. The intake is really cool but id think it would make the bike run kinda like poo. Its just sooo long Breath threw a straw, then cut in half and try agian. Know what im sayin? the rear fender looks outa place...maybe cuz its so wide? maybe just rotate it up so its more of a bob fender look.

you can prolly go to your local bike shop and get a "junk" tire for free. They might even have an old rim they want to get rid of. We had rims now and then we would give away or sell cheap.

All right its time for the update on my paint. Its a Faux patina kinda deal. I got the top coat on and started sanding.


Heres the color of the top coat its a mix of teal and light blue.

I started sanding but the paint isnt quite dry yet and is really plugging up the paper so ill have to wait a couple more days before I finish.

Ill get more blending done and touch in more with the air brush. once all the paint is set up.

This thing scares the piss out of me, but in a good kinda way. Gotta love when someone puts all they got into a bad ass rat. Good show man.

paint looks good! i would highly sugest a flat clear or satin clear over the top of it all will give it depth and make it look a bit more finished... i know the look you are going for and actually know the owner of that HD, it is also cleared

may want to flip those clubmans man, with your weight forward like that it willbe tough with a jockey shift... not sure if you ever rode one before but you want your body weight kind of in the middle not over till your are comfortable on it

I think the 1974 style crash bars set it off. I've always been pretty spooked by a hand pull clutch on a jockey shift. cool bike

Looks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than I thought it would! BUT, you need to give headlight ears and bucket similar treatment. eye goes right to them as it is.

I believe those are stock bars flipped...? Maybe wrong, either way, I think your correct. I'd put some Chimps on it.

the headlight bucket and ears are going to get ratted as well, i just didnt want to do them until i tear the bike down for welding. Im not worried about the bars being so far forward I like them there, it makes it feel like my cafe, and i absolutely hate ape hangers.
i ordered all my parts and hope the bike will be running by the end of the week. We'll see.
