1973 CB350G Disc Brake Caliper Options???

I bought a "73 CB350G recently, the only CB350 with a factory disc brake up front apparently. My caliper is frozen up from sitting and it has been discontinued. Ebay searches for a replacement have produced nothing so far.

Does anyone know of a good way to get it unfrozen? Or a caliper from another CB that will bolt up the same and work as a replacement? I have the bike running good and would love to get out and ride it but this brake problem is holding me up!

Not sure if this is what you "should" do but I took a pot of water, got it pretty hot, set it in there (very shallow so that I didn't get it on the brake pad) did that a few times, cool down, get it hot again, and then I put new brake fluid in the lines, hooked it up and pushed it out with the new fluid, while it was still hot/warm. Worked fine for me. See if anyone else comes up with what they did.

If everything else fails, drill and tap an M6 hole through the center of the caliper. Then run a bolt through until it pushes out the piston. Weld up the hole and smooth.

I read somewhere that you can take a grease gun, hook it up to the caliper and push the piston out that way. So I'll probably soak it in penetrant overnight and try that first.

If you end up going with DrJ's route you'll obviously destroy the piston

No it wouldn't. I've done this. The bolt pushes out the piston from the inside. The hole in the caliper just needs to be plugged with weld.

Fixed mine with WD-40 (fine oil) and compressed air connected to the banjo-bolt connection.
Be carefull!!! Because it gives kind of a !!PLOP!! :P So point it away from you in a piece of cloth or something similar...
Clean it up, and replace seal
and you're good to go again...

Best way to do it is with adapter and grease gun.
I've done a couple of scary removals using heat 8) but really, it's not safe ;D
I made a new adapter from a 10x1.25 bolt drilled and tapped 6x1 for grease nipple, pumped piston and pad out real quick and easy. (then I found the one I made about 30 yrs ago ::) )
If anyone else is about to disassemble Honda caliper, (or any other that uses10x1.25 bolt) I have a spare I'll sell for a few bucks (plus postage)
I can make 10x1mm for Suzuki/Brembo if anyone needs one

Yes the CB350G model was the only CB350 with a disc brake, but wait! It's the exact same brake caliper as a CB360 and most of the other 70's Hondas like CB450's and CB550's (except NOT the CB750). Should be easy to find if you look for those other models... some on ebay... I found mine at the wreckers... Seal kits are cheap and the rear piston from a Honda CBR600rr will work and is pretty cheap if you need to replace it.

Great Info Overdraft. Yeah I've got a 550 and 360, and they both have the same setup. And I didn't know that a CBR600rr piston would work. Do you know what years? (just for future people to see this if they need that)

Here's the part number. It's the correct bore but slightly shorter... unless you're someone who likes to run your pads right down to the metal this shouldn't matter...

and they're hollow and WAY lighter than the stock ones, as well as being coated with the latest carbonized beryllium unobtanium...
