1974 cb125 6 volt wiring problems.... halp? (possibly low battery?)

Hey everybody, I just recently picked up a cb125 and started tearing into it. I will post in the projects section in a couple days. It's a simple tracker. Anyways, I started into the wiring and it's pretty simple I must say..... I changed the taillight and this is where the problem is. I have all my wires properly connected and grounds to the correct spots. I finally got the right combination of wiring/grounds and then out of no where. NO LIGHT!!! if there are no fuses.... I don't know what I am doing wrong... I have already looked at the wiring diagram and everything seems correct. COULD THE BATTERY BEING CLOSE TO DEAD BE THE REASON WHY IT ISN'T WORKING? I noticed that braking didn't engage the brake light and the signals did not blink... due to low power? I had a 6V Gilera 124 and it did the same thing!

Any help would be awesome! Thanks! also.... a picture of the bike with the new taillight... don't want to spoil the poject build :P

I didn't test the battery... No tester :[

It is close to dead though. The headlight will turn on with the key turned.

Now that you mention that. I checked. They are 12v........... could this be the reason why the brake light wasn't working at all?!
what does this mean?
 
Your bike is 6v meaning that the charging system only puts out 6v (I'm simplifying). 12v components need 12v to function. That includes bulbs.

And the battery. Is it a 6v battery?

Also, you need to buy a multi meter. Without one doing any electrical work is a waste of time.
 
12V bulb will not light up with only 6V. It may be very, very dim but won't light. You need 6V bulbs.
 
I... I understand that :p I know what it means, I just don't know what the repercussions are.

i.e. I guess it has been running with the 12v bulb in it since I got it.... Yes. the taillight was working. but no reaction with the brake light! Could this be sheer luck?

I will pick up a meter soon.... I am low on funds!

looks like I'll need to go find a 6v bulb!
 
6V may off been enough to light the taillight filament but not the filament for the stoplight.

So the taillight was or still is working and the stop light never worked?

I get what you mean! The taillight was working and the stoplight never worked! Now I have no light at all! Which I believe to be related to the battery. Your takes?
 
Probably, but inadequate voltage can severely shorten a bulbs life as well, just like too much voltage. Get the battery checked and find a 6V bulb to go in there.
 
Let me know if you can't find a 6V bulb. I may have one at work. If I can find it under the dust.
 
thanks boss man! I just did some research on them......Wow. I did not think it would be that hard to find one :[

I mean.... yeah I can order some. I would rather just go out to the parts store and find one :/

Any of you guys have luck finding them in a local store?
 
If it takes an 1157 12V bulb in the tail light, the 6V equivalent is an 1154 bulb. I didn't find one.
 
NAPA and Carquest usually have 6v bulbs on the back shelves around here. Most decent bike shops (and even some stealerships) will have them squirreled away, you just need to talk to the grey beard at the counter instead of the kid. Even HD should carry them, their bikes were 6v until 1964, the better dealers keep a small stock on hand for their customers who have "weekend bikes". I do have a 6v truck that I'm converting to 12v, so I might have a couple decent bulbs if you can't find any. Including the little dinky instrument bulbs. But, most of mine are going to be single filament (turn signal and such).

I know my local farm co-op carries 6v bulbs...
