1974 CB125S help please!

So I was planning on getting a 550 for my first bike (still plan on getting it) but last night an acquaintance of mine who is into scooters offered me his CB125s in straight trade for my 2001 Yammy Vino 50cc 2t scoot. The vino had slightly bent forks, dangling blinkers, completely trashed leg shields, and was overall not taken care of by the PO. Needless to say I paid 200 bucks for it so I figured getting a CB125 for that would be a steal... Well it needs a new battery and rear inner tube. It's also got some rust in the tank that I'll need to clean, the ignition and gauges were replaced with a set from some kawasaki bike, it has the most god aweful paint job as well, I've got my work cut out for me.
What I'm most concerned about right now is the carb though. I went on Ebay and it seems cheap replacement carbs can be had for 20-40 bucks! Problem is, they are only for the 80-85 models which if I'm not mistaken, will not work with mine. Does anyone have a link to some decent carbs that would bolt on to replace the old one without any modification? I'd really like to keep the price under 50 bucks as well... Please don't make me regret this trade off, I'm pretty sure it will all work out, that scooter was fun but ugly as sin and I have yet to see someone that didn't look like a total pansy while riding one.

Also, if you happen to know where I can get the tires and tubes for it off hand that would be great! Linking me to where I can get a battery for it would be awesome too, but I'm sure I can take care of these small things.
 
Well from what I've read they upped the engine from 122cc to 124cc at a certian point and put a bigger carb on Supposedly the older ones actually ran better than the newer ones with the bigger engine and carb! But maybe I'm wrong here, hopefully someone who knows a lot about this can chime in. Also, I've noticed that a lot of these carbs on ebay are either Mikuni or some off brand version of a Mikuni, the carb on my CB125 is one of Honda's trusty Kiehin carbs. I don't know how well they fare in the four stroke world, but the Kiehin they put on the Honda Hobbit 2t moped was awesome! Do a lot of people switch over to Mikunis?
 
You can get lots of great parts from Dime City Cycles - friends of the board and supporters. :)

A 2cc change in engine displacement won't change the way it runs on a different carb. Chances are a later model carb will work just fine so long as it physically fits.

Mikuni VM carbs are nice - I run them on most of my bikes (all of them at this point) but there's nothing wrong with the Keihins. Why do you think you need a new one?

You got a good deal trading a trashed 2001 Vino for this bike. $200 is a nice starting point. Get us some pics!
 
I'm pretty sure I read a thread on here saying later model CB125 carbs won't work, perhaps I just need to do some more research! I recently visited Dime City Cycles website, instantly fell in love.
Frank, I checked for a rebuild kit and only found one for an 80-85 carb, but perhaps one will pop up again.
Tim, there is a home made float bowl in it right now... It looks like a moped carbs float bowl mated awkwardly with the rest of the honda components, the entire insides of that carb are trashed. I'm sure a rebuild kit would work, I'd just rather get a whole new shiny clean carb if the price is right!
 
Pictures will come tomorrow or Saturday when my buddy gets his Canon over here. I can't wait to shoot some HD footage of rides when he gets his Canon 7D!
 
It looks like the carbs from the 80-82 models will probably fit. It's got the same mounting flange and says that they are 48mm bolt pattern. I just went out and measured mine with calipers and it looks to be right at 48mm as well. Pretty sure mine is a 74 as well....not positive because it's titled wrong.

Thanks for checking Frank, I appreciate it! Do you know if those repair kits come with a new float? If so I could get by with one of those and keep the original Kiehin, I gotta keep skimming ebay for the right kit though...
 
Usually, rebuild kits do not include a new float. For the price of the gaskets, o-rings, and float, you may be better off getting a Mikuni.
 
Yeah, the more I research the more I'm finding that to be true... Just need to make sure I get the right one to do the job.
