1975 CB 200 Front Brake Upgrade

Hey guys and gals I have got a CB 200 that needs a front brake upgrade. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a new caliper to upgrade it with? I would need the whole set-up if its hydraulic. Also I would like to keep the original disc style brake if at all possible but what ever seems best. Any ideas people?
 
stock 200 is cable brake, I think you have to machine the swing arm piece and fit 350/360/400 type caliper.
I think you'll need a new RH switch, doesn't 200 have lever built into switch?
 
Ok adapter plate would need to be made for the front brake. And yes unfortunately the lever it part of the RH switch assembly. So I would have to come up with another way to place the kill switch and the starter button. Awesome ::).
 
Alright thanks. Do you think using a cb350/360/400 front brake would be too much overkill in braking power? I mean should I be looking for a front brake from a smaller bike or what?
 
They would be fine but you can get a new master cylinder cheaper than the re-built ones I've seen.
Get caliper your going to use after you modify mounting then get master cyl
 
Are calipers and master cylinders interchangeable? And I would probably be finding stuff to rebuild myself out of a salvage yard. Unless you think that wouldn't be smart for this kind of thing.
 
No and No.

Calipers and master cylinders are not interchangeable. The bore size is critical and mounting holes are different too.

If you can find a new caliper to do teh job or a new M/C just buy them. I have rebuilt many and given the choice, I'd rather replace than repair as a rule.
 
Oh dang well that kills my plans a bit. Thanks for chiming in teazer. This leaves me wondering what to do. Whether to find a full working brake set up somewhere or see if you can still buy a full set up by way of OEM. I guess I'll have to ask around.
 
The key to the whole brake thing is ratio of M/C bore to caliper bores. You can change either or both, but they have to be compatible. I'd start at the caliper end and find something that fits and then get a M/C that matches it.

The CB200/100/125 cable disc has been a problem since new, I think there was someone on Hondatwins who machined caliper arm to fit hydraulic caliper, the original doesn't unbolt from arm

And that surprises you that we agree?? Circles are made so we can continue to around them time after time. :-)
 
I took a look at a couple on eBay, if I had one I'm pretty sure I could make a new arm to hold a conventional Honda 'swing arm' caliper, look like that would be easier than machining original flat and drilling holes in it

This build has done it for a CB200. I was thinking of doing something similar. I just need to find the proper hardware first.
