1976 CB500T from Victoria, BC

This is my first bike, I bought i few months ago and found out 500T parts are pretty hard to come by. I took apart the carbs and replaced the air cut valve on one side. They don't make anymore for the 500T but a good replacement came from a GL1000. I just cut down the brass pin to match the stock valve. Other than that I put on some superbike bars, K&N Filters, put a return hoop on the back and cut off all the old seat brackets to make way for a lower profile seat, the rear fender came from 7 metal west. Next on the agenda is a lot of riding, then a Copper riveted battery box, 2-1 one exhaust, new firestone champions on black rims, smaller front fender, maybe some smaller gauges. Polish and clean some bits. I have a small issue with a high idle after a little riding that comes and goes but thats about it.

Wish I had the balls to hack at my frame like that! Curious, did you bother to bump up the stock 145 main jets after adding the cone filters?

I haven't touched the jets yet, This is my first bike so I don't really know what to look for if I needed to re-jet. Any help here would be great. It starts after a couple kicks with the choke just cracked but doesn't idle very well with it closed. Will that be helped with larger jets?
Don't be worried about cutting in to the frame thats the easy part, I had a fabrication shop bend me the hoop, once I had that I cut off the back two pieces that the turn signals bolted to, welded on the hoop. My only mess up was when I went to put on the fender it sat too close to the tire so I had to cut a notch in both sides to kick up the hoop to give it enough clearance for wheel travel. Then I cut off all the other brackets and welded in a tube in place of the cross brace because it came up to high for the flat seat to sit flush on the frame.

Welcome to DTT! Pretty cool scoot you have there. That 7 Metal West place makes some great products. How's the quality of your rear fender? Top notch, I'm sure.

There is a post in the "1800 cafe help" section by a fellow named Boingk that is all about tuning. Great bit of info there.

Hey thanks for the link, it demystifies the carb a little. Im still a little hesitant. The fender is awesome 1/8" think aluminum hand formed, the top came in a wire brush finish I took it town to an 800 grit wet sand, looks awesome and doesn't need paint!
