1978 CB 400A - The Slowest Cafe Racer Ever Project...

Mornin' everyone!

Well, a lil while ago, my wife and I purchased a 1978 CB 400A (in pieces) with the thought that we'd work on it together and have it as a replacement to her Ducati Monster (sold that bike and my car to help purchase a house). Our thought was to create a lil Cafe Racer but when we found out we had actually purchased an 'automatic', the wife lost interest. Well that plan hasn't exactly worked out and it sat in the garage of said new house for a winter and a half. Last week, I finally found a chance to start working on the project bike because one of my co-workers has a shop and all the tools that I don't have (which is most)... heh

SO the Slowest Cafe Racer Project has been born...

So what I'm going to do first is to make sure the motor runs. It DOES turn over but no idea what kinda shape it's in (speedo says 14K if that can be believed). The last time the bike was registered was in '98. After making sure the bike runs, then going to start tearing it down, finding the necessary parts that are missing, figuring out what we're going to do with the tank and seat shape (didn't come w/ a seat so building/buying one). Been lurking for a little while and there are SO many nice bikes here I have quite a few ideas now. I'm also a first time builder but my friend has done quite a few bikes so I have some help.

That's about all for now. Looking forward to working on this bike. It will take a while as funds are limited but the end will justify the means... heh

And that's how it starts. Next thing you know you'll be adding exhaust, polishing everything and adding a little powder!

Looking forward to it!! I'll probably ask all sorts of stupid questions along the way, anxious to get started but the wife has me doing a bunch of 'house stuff' like painting, tiling, etc... She's nesting (we're expecting our first in January) and we're having a big pig roast for Labor Day... this week though, I'll put in some time. I promised myself an evening a week... And of course I'll post pics along the way...
