I just went to see this bike tonight... It's a one owner bike, but was sitting in a barn for 12 years before getting cleaned up and put back on the road 3 years ago. The owner had it shipped to europe for a tour of the alps early in its life and back again. Nice fellow, even let me take a test ride.

Bike is in decent shape, not much rust. Bit of surface rust on the frame at the pegs, but looks solid underneath. inside the tank looks alright, but saw a bit of rust outside at the seam of the tank near the seat. Horn doesn't work. Bike started right up from cool, but when I took it out there wasnt much gas in the tank, cause I didn't get far! It was starving of fuel for some reason, esp when I cranked the throttle, and I'm not sure it's because of the empty tank.... will have to go back again and see it when the tank is full, and I get a chance to warm up the motor properly.

Guy is pretty firm on the price right now, but I don't think it's worth 2000. Just my opinion, you may think otherwise. I'm gonna wait a bit and check with him later. But if you're in the area and you beat me to it/want it, go for it.

hmmm... 2 grand is a bit much in my opinion.

It might be worth it however, if it comes certified and you've established the fact that the choking is a result of fuel starvation.
That symptom you've described happenes when the gas is low in the tank and the reserve is not on....

Although if you spend $1000 on a bike, you would probably be spending at least another grand in parts and time to get it up to certification, so its kinda a trade off...Just talk to Saucer about his "secret project"....

Its a nice looking bike, lots of potential, I think you'd be very happy with a cb550, especially if you are planning to turn it into a cafe racer over the winter!!...

Feel free to call me if you have any questions mike!!

i think 2 grand is a lot, but if it's mint then it's worth it, i bought a mint looking 450 for $600 , but ended up replacing every rusty part, so i'd buy a mint running one, if i was doing it again, pay more, and save time and lots of money, it think dhani has the same bike you're looking at, he bought it this year for $1400 78 550, real good shape,

Yeah... the bike isn't mint, that's the problem. It's in good condition, mind you, and the original 4-4 exhaust has no holes or any real surface rusting (some blemishes, but nothing even remotely bad there), but the bike does need cleaning up. To me I'd say $1400-1500 would be fair if certified, $1000-1200 as is. He hasn't got many nibbles though, so I'm perfectly happy waiting it out. Which suits me fine because I told myself to finish my two FZR's before I bought another project.... you guys are such bad influences on me!

i think it's great that the pipes are in good condition, but don't listen to us, between me dhani and noel, we might have more than 10 bikes, not including "secret projects"
