1978 Honda CB400T (Newb Needing Advice!)

Hello all! New to the forum and bike world! Im new to riding bikes, ridden a few dirt bikes but looking to transfer to the street. I love the cafe racer look, so if anyone has any advice on a good bike to learn to ride on that would still have the potential to be a cafe build it would be greatly appreciated!

My dad has a 1978 Honda CB400T Hawk sitting in the shop, looks to be all there in good condition, but it is covered in junk and hasn't been started in 10+ years. It was running when parked, but he traded for it and doesn't ride so it was just left there. Would this be a good bike to get running or would I be better of to start with something else?

I have a moderate amount of mechanical experience so I would be doing as much of the work myself as I could.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Rob. I have the same bike and from what I have read on different forums the CB400T isn't the best frame to make a racing bike out of. However, if you are just going for looks, then knock yourself out. I will say that mine was in running shape but with any older bike it's going to take some cash and patience to get it running well.
