1978 Honda CX500 Cafe Build

As this was my first build and I learned what to change next time: These tires will not be bought again. Compared to the rubber on the CB550 they are lacking. The foot pegs I had on earlier were mounted backwards in hopes to get my feet back a bit but if I were to have leaned the bike into a turn they wouldn't have come up as designed. I am not sure I will purchase another non runner, unless it is a freebee there are just too many unknowns.

Freebe non-runners are common. The one I just finished was a freebe non-runner. Then he had it running for a while until the stator died. Then it sat in his garage for a few years.

I have another that is a freebe non-runner. It is just getting basic repair to make it serviceable. Forks are bent, bike is beat up. Carbs need work. It will fire on ether, but no fuel is getting through the carbs.

This is my favorite part about mechanickin' as a hobby - I enjoy it a great deal, and people bring me free money once in a while.

what have you attached the battery box to? how do you think mounting it low will affect the handling? i have a MG V50 that i am cafe'ing and contemplating the position of the battery.

the cx 500 has a h box under it so there is 2 mounts on the frame and one on the engine

that is where i attach my battery box

cxman got it, it attaches to two of the three mounts that used to attach the dreaded h-box. I imagine there is a positive affect to the steering as it is one foot lower on the bike.

prob makes no diff lol

i think the battery weighs less than the stock brick h box

If I had storage I would buy the lot but with 5 bikes now I would be in so much hurt if I brought home another 4..

dont worry about the next 4 after the first hundred they get overwhelmed and just leave you alone with it

provided they stay out of sight
