Long Time Lurker finally posting pics.

I've seen a lot of really good bikes here and have finally decided to get mine into the fray. It was given to me by a neighbour a couple of years ago for free. Seems it was sitting in a field for a dozen years. We managed to get it running but it needed some serious work. Wouldn't stay charged, carbs needed cleaned. Air filter an obvious mouse house. Over the previous winter I slowly worked a bit at a time to polish the covers and some other things. Replaced the stator and Rotor, oil changed, carbs cleaned and basically got it to a running state.

Spring '08 rolls around and I pick-up a Yamy Sr250. Another barn find, starts after sitting 2 years first try, so that occupies my time and the Honda sits. Bought it for my girlfriend so that we could ride together. Later at Paris Swap meet, my dad gets a "certified" xs400. Certified by a blind marine mechanic that walked with a gimp. Bearings, chain, sprockets, stem bearings, fork seals, battery, carbs cleaned, 12 hours to get the swing-arm bushings out and replaced occupies more time and the honda sits.

So now January '09 rolls around the Damnit the cb650 will sit no more.

So some teaser Pics:

I'm taking out the instrument cluster and mounting the idiot lights inside the speedo and tach. How-to to follow.

My "How to" on the switch rebuild found here

http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=7370.0

This started out as my first motorcycle rebuild, now she's number 3.

I've gone with drag bars and the blown knees don't like the chicken wing stance so I'll keep the original pegs where they are, the passenger pegs will be removed.

My cafe is a cb650 as well. I notice that the top of your frame does not have the cruiser dip in it. Is that stock or did your modify the top frame tubes so that they followed the line of of your tank to the rear of the bike?

That is a real cool looking 4 into 1 pipe. Do you know what kind it is?

Keep the pics coming.

looks good! you going to shave that bump stop down a bit... looks like it is a ft high... great work polishing man!

I'm not sure what that is, but you can get a complete MAC 4-into-1 exhaust system for about $300. It's looks reallly similar to the one on that bike.

The frame is original. I think they change the frame in '80. My brother has a an '83 and it sits really low.

The seat hump is kinda high but i've got a fiberglass pan to finish as well as the foam seat and vinyl to stich which should help with the lines Not as low as some of the others but I'm doing the bike to be comfortable as well. I intend on riding it some distances this year. I like my bikes to be workhorses not show ponies. If i can't ride it it's pointless.

Thanks for the props

Jay
