1979 Cb750 Airbox Covers

I have seen a bike on here recently with a nice metal cover for the ugly airbox on their DOHC cb750, it was a 1980 and I have a '79. I can find the covers for'80+ but not for the 79. Will they work on my airbox and if not can I swap with an '80 airbox to get the look I want?

Interesting, I have an 81 C model that has them and just assumed the K did as well. But seeing their side covers I can see why not.
That said, according to the micro-fische the pieces you are looking for a listed as C models only
17226-425-730 is the left and 17225-MA5-670 is the right

Is there a large difference between the K and C air cleaners? Can I buy a new airbox and put it on my bike or will I mess up the "perfect harmony" the airbox has with the engine?

While the airbox part number is the same for all first gen DOHC's...

Replacement airbox part number has the K, L, C, F... 750, 900, 1000 are all listed in the above. Factory micro-fische parts cross-referance.

I feel really dumb here, maybe I am not getting something, can I use a later gen "C" model airbox?

You're not dumb... it's kind of mind boggling when it comes to interchanging parts from one model to the next.
It sure seems they would swap over. There isn't any difference in the engine between your 79 DOHC and the ones that were installed in the 80-81-82 C models. And going by the Honda micro-fische it appears they fit all the frames.

I tried to take a pic of mine last night but the chrome messes with the flash, may later if you want to compare.

Ok cool, I never thought to check ebay for the pictures to help, I found another listing for just the chrome peices to find exactly how they mount and they definitley work, my airbox has a metal cover like the piece shown in the picture has, just without the chrome piece surrounding it, and the left one has the bolt hole already tapped for that one to mount, COOL! I like the look of them way better than the normal ugly black, it kinda dresses it up a bit.
