1979 CB750 TRACKER/CAFE

I have this build over in the cafe section http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=20630.50 but wanted to move it here since i wanted it to be more of a tracker.

im gonna keep it short for now.
i started with this

and now it looks like this...

im waiting on my carbs to come back from my mechanic so its just sitting here. the biggest issue i have right now is getting the front end to look like a tracker. it looks a little too tall in the front. im having a hard time making it look like this...

any suggestions?

im running 110/90 19 in front and 130/90 17 in the rear
rental ultra low bars
stock front suspension

There's a couple of things you could do cheaply to make it look lower. Fork boots are cheap, and IMHO look cool. I've seen some threads on guys using PVC spacers inside the forks to limit the travel and it seems to yield a 1-1.5 inch drop for almost no cost. The more expensive route is to pony up and slap a set of fat/tall tires on it.

so is that why the front looks weird? because its too tall?
if i get taller tires in the front, wont the raise the front

Yes, the taller tires will raise the front a bit, but it will also fill in an equal amount of space in the blank area between the forks. Those exposed fork legs are really what is catching your eye and exaggerating the height of the front end. Fork boots would probably make a huge difference alone. And this is just me, but I'd want to at least stick a fork brace on there if there wasn't going to be a front fender. You may notice in the picture of the bike you posted for inspiration has a stubby fender and some fork boots. A little goes a long way.

does anyone know which model came with the 18' comstars?
i want the firestone ans military tires but it only comes in an 18 inch rear.
or should i go with a spoked rim?

Found my 18 inch wheel
trades 6 shirts for it...

Also ordered my front and rear tires and fork boots. Firestone ANS Military 400x19 and 450x18. Ill have a picture up as soon as i paint the wheels and get the tires mounted. Also had to order some new manifold boots-old ones werent creating a seal. I noticed a bunch of rust and shit inside my fuel filter so i got my tank relined.

Personally I think spoked wheels would look sweet. Black hubs and rims with polished spokes.

wow ive been away a while. so the story goes, some unfortunate events fell upon my mechanic where he had to leave to Ecuador for a month. But he's now back and the bike build is back on schedule. I picked up the tank from the liner dude and he told me if i hadnt lined my tank when i did, i would be in trouble. He found a pinhole that was getting bigger.

i would have gone with spoked wheels but i didnt want to spend any more money on new spokes and all that.


i should be done soon tho.

-my coker diamond tires have been on backorder for 6 months so i gave up on them for now
-tuning pods was a nightmare so i ditched it for stock airbox
-relined tank
-near mint set of carbs found in some shop in Hollywood
-gold DID chain with 1 tooth down in front and new rear sprokets
-kawasaki brake reservoir and lever
-Driven D3 grips -COMFORTABLE!
-targa bar end mirros
-renthal ultra lows
-new NGK spark caps- waiting for Dynatek electronic system
-fork boots

Thanks! I just found the airbox side covers and painted them black and will throw them on too.

Nice work, but I would add a fork brace if you haven't thought of one, with the rear shock upgrade a brace will make it even better.
