1979 CB750

thanks for all the kudos guys. these pics do no justice to the bike. i should have better pics up soon tho.

Ill get pics up soon of the bracket. I've been mixing and matching parts from my 79 cb650. The original gauges from this bike were a little too modern.

As far as the tank goes, im practicing my knee denting on a couple different tanks.

I had to psych myself up to dent a perfectly good tank, so I bought another! Anyway, you should've seen the neighbors popping their heads out their doorways and the ones outside craning their necks to see what the hell I was doing. It's loud, but very satisfying whacking that tank!

Kept fuse box in stock location. Thought I could mount indicator lights under tach (square cut out above ignition), but now see it's a awkward set up. I'd like to use LED's but don't quite know where to put them. Obvious place is in fuse box cover? I used this heavy piece of steel because the bend was right. It's 16 gauge and too hard to work with. I'm looking for a nice piece of 1/8" aluminum.

I'm curious to see what you guys figured out for this. I just made a tmeplate for mine but havent actually made the real thing yet. Maybe 3/16" steel plate so it won't vibrate so much. I plan on making/buying two 2" long spacers that mount to the top triple from underneath.

where did you move your fuse box to?

I'm going to put it down by the battery under the seat. My dad is a machinist so I had him make me a set of bar clamps. I haven't wired it yet. I'm broke, lol, and need some new switch gear so I have to wait. Really like those clip-ons where did you get them from?

I was going to move the fuse box too but since I have clipons, I didn't want that weird empty spot. Now that I have clipons, I can lower the front end another 2" inches-the clubmans got in the way of the forks.
If you guys want these clipons I got them from a guy off craigslist. Just go the craigslist>california>los angeles and search for clubman, cafe or clipons- he's in the san fernando valley (sfv) and he'll ship to wherever. The clipons were $89 before shipping.

I think they are. Oh well. Factor it into your resale value. ;)

This is what i hate about old bikes. After hard acceleration yesterday, i sprung a couple leaks. i got one out of the tach cable, the head gasket and gas leaking from the carbs.

i bought some new needles and seats, jet kit and some other parts. Hopefully i can get it into riding condition and hit the canyons this weekend.

UPDATE
fixed all leaks..
the only problem im having is the bike backfiring when i try to really haul ass or wheelie.

i just got the stage 3 jet kit too. is it because im not running a stock airbox?

Just to be clear-does the backfire happen on decel (when you shut off the gas between shifts?) If so, this is likely to be one or more air cut-off diaphragms leaking? It's a common problem with these carbs, and frankly, a bit of a pain to replace the 'inside' ones without pulling the rack apart. Some guys have done it, but I'm not that dexterous, and have fat-fingers ::) Pull the No. 1 cover off and have a look at the general condition. If it's really manky and the rubber is shot, there's a chance the others are too. You might get lucky. Just be aware there's a spring behind the cover, and a small o-ring that will need to go back.

Let us know how you get on.

cheers

im sorry i i used the wrong word. i meant to say bog not backfire. the bike cruises just fine but when i go for wide open throttle, it bogs down really bad.

ill bring it by the shop when all these bugs are worked out

thanks bikeboy, i checked the diaphragms and they look ok.

im starting to think it may be the cdi box?

under no load the bike revs fine throughout the rpm range. but when i get on the bike it does the same thing.
i got the stage 3 jet kit thinking it was a jetting problem.
first i had it at 130 main and 74 pilot 3rd clip on the needle but it idled poorly.
then i had it at 140 main 3 clips down and 2.5 turns out-forgot wat the pilot were but the bike idled high.

heres the bike at she is now. clubman bars instead of clipons. the clip ons i got created clearance issues
