1980 XS1100 Cafe Custom project

I would put the fork tubes back to stock position. Sliding them up the trees like that reduces trail, therefore possibly reducing stability.

Yup...and only takes an in h or so of change on some frames.

Well unfortunately even a bump on the high way could throw you into a tank slapper. Not saying it will happen but changing the geometry without calculating its results is dangerous.

Never underestimate a bike "builder's" willingness to detract from a bike's functionality or handling for the sake of achieving a "look." Removal of fenders, no padding on seats, hardtails, bad geometry... We've all seen countless examples of bikes that have been so fucked up to achieve a "look" that they aren't even pleasant to ride. Doing it to an overpowered, overweight, flimsy framed XS1100 just fits in with the philosophy that actual function is not important.

There was a time, when building a cafe racer was done specifically to maximize functionality and handling. Now, it just hipster fashion.

I guess that is why I have posted here.

I want to build it to what I like but still maintain proper functionality. With lowering the front end I added air pressure to the front forks so I won't dip so far when braking.

What else should be done?

I was curious about his location, because Frank Rizzo was a rather notorious mayor of Philadelphia back in the '70's.

Why do you need to lower it?

Just a hair because it is raked a little in the front.

Las Vegas was the answer to a previous question.

I picked up the name from the Jerky Boys back in the 80's. After doing some research I did find out about the mayor. Either way it has just stuck over the years.

Got the tires and back rim on yesterday.

That seat bump and clipons isn't fooling anyone, it's still an overweight cruiser not a cafe racer.

Slap some Mikunui's on there with some proper K&N pods, put the forks back to stock height, and a flat seat and drag bars on her and call it a brat. Then you might at least have a bike that rides and runs well.
