Alright so I just picked this up last week for my first street bike. Almost rust free which was quite surprising given it's age and being in Utah. End goal will be a brat type build but I probably won't get into that until next winter. I want to enjoy it this summer and not take it off the street plus I want to get accustomed to it being stock before I dive in.
I'm still making small changes though. Already swapped to some superbike bars and love them! Very satisfied and they're the perfect height for me. I think clip-ons would have been way too low and gotten uncomfortable.
Here's the bike when I got it. No idea where those side panels came from but I'll be fabricating up some metal ones in the near future.
Even though I won't be doing anything drastic off the bat, some things needed to change. The PO modded up this funky tupperware airbox. Real classy. The filter didn't even connect to anything it was just chilling there!
So I put on some Uni pods till I have time to fabricate a new airbox and filter housing. Now for some questions! I've included a video but do the lifters sound exceptionally noisy? It's currently running on three cylinders. It's getting spark, must be fuel. So I ordered all new o-rings for the carbs and will be putting those on late this week. The inside of the tank is a touch rusty so I'm thinking rust particles jammed up a jet. I installed an inline filter and am gonna get that cleaned out when I pull the carbs. I'm also getting bogging at around 1/4 throttle which I'm assuming is from the Uni's but I expected them to make it run leaner and instead it sounds like it's getting drowned in fuel. It idles better than before it's just when I quickly blip past 1/4 it bogs.
