1981 Suzuki GS 750 troubles

I have a 1981 Suzuki GS 750 for about three months. I have the hopes of turning it into a brat style cruiser. I have every thing hooked up right and have been able to get it to start when on full choke but it wont stay running once I turn the throttle over. I have taken the carbs apart and cleaned them thoroughly( they where full of crap, plus a bee got down into there some how. One thing that I have noticed is that when I have my gas tank to the on position there is no gas coming through the lines (clear lines for vacuum and gas. There is a new petcock installed plus new spark plugs. I am getting frustrated and would like some help. Thank you, first picture is from when I got the bike, second one is half way finished.

Yes I have, it runs but once i start to give it throttle it cuts out. It takes a little bit for the bike to start up too.

That windjammer though.

I know the petcocks on the GS550/750 from the later years are notorious for being a crap design. I recently had to tear apart the one on my 550 to get it to even turn to prime position. IIRC, you should not run the bike in prime, as it allows the fuel to flow freely rathe than controlled by vacuum pressure. Are you sure all your jets are clean and clear all the way through all 4 carbs?

You can run the bike with the fuel tap on prime - the on and res positions are governed by the vacuum which just ensures no fuel flows when the bike is stopped.

When you say you've "cleaned" the carbs, have you sprayed all the internal passages with carb cleaner and blown them out with compressed air? If not, they are still dirty.

I had a 1980 GS750 (GSX in the UK) the fuel tap was crap, best thing to do is throw it away and fit a better one from a later bike.
