This bike is the homeliest of the four I own. How she looked before I took the wind screen and handlebars off:

Current plans:

Daytona bars, update the forks to something with two front disk brakes, upgrade the brake master cylinder to a remote cylinder since I like the look, turn the pillion seat into a stopper so I don't slide off of the bike due to acceleration ;D possibly swap the engine for a 650 turbo, install drag bars, and I'll figure the rest out later. Any holes in my plan? Let me know. Drag bars are on the way, purchasing new stuff will have to wait until August.

Re: 1982 CX500 Custom Dragster

let me know if you want to sell the windscreen if its not scratched up

the turbo wont fit in that frame for one of 35 reasons lol

the 650 will with a bunch of work and the right carbs if you can find a loose 650 motor that is any good

i buy up every one of them i see they are getting scarce

Re: 1982 CX500 Custom Dragster

Well, that throws a wrench into the works. We'll see about the engine swap later. Thanks for the heads up.

I got the Daytona bars today. They do look and feel better than the stock ones, but the brake line and clutch cable are too long and are kinking up so I'm going to have to find shorter versions of both. And since the original master cylinder is canted and the bars are flat, that will need to be switched out, too. Dash it all. I did step back and take a look at the bike with no bars. It does look a lot better without them. Hmm. I could really use someone with some sketching skills to sort this out.

i have used a bunch of these on cx500s

but when you get it you have to clean the thing out inside they are full of crap from polishing

so blow it out then rinse it and clean the lid

also you never answered me about the wind shield i am about to buy one for my wifes bike

Sorry about that. I'm going to put the wind screen back on again after I get the handlebars sorted out since it's my back up commuter ride.

I was on the CX500 forum and someone said a 2005 and newer CBR600 front fork setup is a direct bolt on swap. Since I want to lower the front anyway, this may work out better. There are multiple good front set ups on eBay, I will be swapping after I get moved and settled in.

the cx with the cbr front end and the cbr 17 inch wheel will result in a pretty twitchy bike

as you will be reducing the trail quite a bit i hope you are an experienced rider

BTW you will need an all balls racing conversion bearing setup to install it

and the clip ons wont clear the tank

Thanks for the heads up. Are we talking CBR twitchy? Not trying to be a smart ass, just trying to gauge the viability of this. My daily ride is a sport bike.

it will handle very light extremely quick turns in comparison to stock

but if you ride a sport bike already not to much drama

I have a Hyosung GT650R front end on my CX, it has a greater triple tree offset than the CBR but less than the CX. Combined with the 17" front wheel of the Hyosung (I run a GT250R front wheel as it takes a 110 tyre and is a little skinnier than the 650 wheel) it handles great, much quicker than the CX but not twitchy at all which is the risk you run with the CBR front end and others (like the GSXR). It's a good compromise and is cheaper than a CBR front end but is not a direct bolt in, a sleeve is needed for the lower triple tree but then it will take the Honda taper bearing kit from All Balls. To be honest a late model CBR front end is over kill for the CX performance wise and cost wise and cheaper less extreme front ends will max the rest of the CX out performance wise anyway :)

Cheers

i have been looking for one of those front ends since you did yours

over here i have not ever found one

I asked on a local sport bike forum, if I want a new front it looks like it's eBay time. Which I'm really trying to avoid since most sellers require PayPal, which I'm banned from. Stupid gun rule. Anywho, it's going to be a while before I can work on this again, probably the fall.

I took the euro bars off of the bike since I didn't feel like dicking around with new controls for now. Due to lack of attention, this particular bike was giving me problems this past weekend. I headed back to the wife's house to get this moved. I turned the key and no lights. After a few trips to the apartment and auto parts store, and a question on the CX500 forum, I got her started and ran it around the neighborhood. Main fuse was blown. I even managed to get three more mosquito bites in the process. I'm bringing this one back to the apartment, since it's tagged and I can ride it while I get my Ducati's maintenance done. Yup, I'm at 7200 miles, 300 more and it's valve adjusting time.
