1982 yamaha virago 750, fork swap

so this is my first build,
i have a 1982 yamaha virago, bought a 2001 yamaha r1 front end, and the stem was to shorts, so i ground down weld on virago lower triple. and pressed out stem in both lower triple and the virago was to thin in diameter to be able to press. i need a longer stem.
yamaha r1 stem was 8.5 inches
yamaha virago stem was roughly 9 1/4
both of these measurements are from top of lower triple to top of stem
Any reply would be great.

Your easiest option is getting either the R1 stem lengthened, or get a new longer stem machined up. Either way you'll need to take it to a machine shop and pay $$$, but that's just how it is.
