1987 KLR650

DesmoBro

Busted Nut
So if you havn't heard the story about how I got this....It all started with a Vintage burton snowboard which can be seen in my DT400 build thread background shot pg2 ....Bartered Via CL to a Moped, Moped Turned into an 81 GS 750, GS turned into a 03 Honda 300ex quad, Quad turned into this KLR 650...already turned down a ducati 900ss trade offer for this KLR ( i really wanted that 900 but this KLR is too cool)....KLR has 14,000 miles on it ( Achilles heel for the Timing chain tensioner "Doohickey") Drove it for a week thought I heard A noise tore it apart and ordered Eagle Mikes Doo upgrade with torsion spring ....All I need now is to bend up my inch and quarter wrench and buy the correct bolt to use as a puller

I'm not sure what the hell i'll do with it Most likely upgrade it for a safari and drive the snot out of it, Hang some tire daily. It will be getting the timing adjusted(exhaust cam advanced 1 tooth) and valves shim'd

Sounds like great fun doing the safari thing.
For me the fun starts where the asphalt ends, and doing a bike that plays along where and when u like easily makes life worth living.
How often do u ha ve to do the walves on the kawa?
I Have a Husaberg wich walves needs tlc every 20 hour.
Trading it in next week for a xr 650.
Now i scaring the hunters and deers out of the forest on a old bitch of a yz 490 2-stroke, brutal and loads of fun.
Like your motos mr.
Haveing 2-3 buildthreads on pictures and film but not the knowledge toget them posted.
But one of these early mornings.
(sorry my bad english)

not sure on the exact interval for checking the valves them seem to have a loud tick so i'm going to check em out...Husaberg sounds fun but such a pain love me old 2 strokes as well.

To post up pictures i think you need a photobucket account to do the large nice pictures then copy and paste the code between this thingy

I`ll empty my cameras on to my pc and do some sets of 4 pics at the time then!
I really like seeing all these old jap bikes we dont hav a lot of them here in Norway for roaduse.
We havent got sr500 and such, but we have plenty of vintage mxbikes.
I have an 76- ish Rm 370cc 2-stroke, 84 and 86 Yam yz 490 and one unknown Maico 490 without a piston wich is impossible to get a hold :'(. This is my "dirtuse)
Allso have a 65 vespa,58 triump 500 daytona, 84vf 1000r(bits),Suki gs 400 scrambler/brat and a 76 Kawa s2 350 with 420kit and real track expansionchambers wich produced a topspeed of 231km/h (by gps)before i chickened out.......(Roaduse)
Allso do have some old bmc minicoopers and someold bmw02`s.
Gotta hit the shop and do some scramblerseat grindings before the kids are back from school.
Thanx Desmo!
I`ll tune in on what happens to this one.
trying to attach a picof the RM
