Figured this isn't going to be a Resto, a Streetfighter, or a cafe so I'll throw it in Specials.

Picked up this 1990 FZR400:

I have already sourced a set of mids/lowers. So now I am thinking about paint schemes.

Possibilities (and forgive my terrible MSPaint skills):

Flat black speed block

Silver/Aluminum speed block

Yellow Speed block

And I really like this idea:

Re: 1990 Yamaha FZR400

The 70's Yamaha paint scheme has been done alot but it looks so good. 8)

Re: 1990 Yamaha FZR400

For the hell of it, I put a TZ tail on my old FZR400 race bike. Looked awesome (to me). This was in the mid-1990s.

I don't know if I have any digital pics of it or not.

I like this paint scheme -

Re: 1990 Yamaha FZR400

Yes sir, that is indeed a very nice color scheme.

For now I am sticking with the stock fairings. For now.

Re: 1990 Yamaha FZR400

You know that's what you want. Go on. Do it. Any send me a seat - I need one and don't have the time or mental space right now to make an FZR400-M1 seat.

Wide stripes down low tend to look "heavy. Try a thinner stripe and raise the bottom edge to make it look taller/lighter. Here's one we prepared earlier.

Re: 1990 Yamaha FZR400

You don't want to know how hard we had to "bargain" to get that cowl off of the seller. He really didn't want to part with it. He'll heal OK and the scars won't show much. LOL

All joking aside, doesn't Air-tech sell one to slip over a stock passenger seat?

Re: 1990 Yamaha FZR400

This is a 5 minute Microsoft Image Composer circa 2000 massage to that last pic. I "removed" all the plastic below the lower subframe line and the rest is color over the original bodywork. Stock fairing, seat, tank cover etc. The only difference is the rear seat/side cover/fairing or whatever Yamaha calls those acres of plastic. "The back forty" I guess.

A YZF600R tank drops more or less straight onto the frame over the air box, replacing the stock fuel tank. It's slightly wider than stock and much rounder than a 400 tank cover.

Re: 1990 Yamaha FZR400

Funny. Half of us are making older bikes look new and the other half are making eighties bikes look 10 years or more older.

Re: 1990 Yamaha FZR400

Ha. Yes sir. I just want it to look like the late 80's/early 90's bike that it is.
