4-1 or...

what are some noticeable, other than visual, differences, pros & cons, etc. between a 4-2-1 and a 4-1 exhaust system? is rejetting either required or recommended with them?

mac seems to be the go-to, easiest to source and fairest priced for DOHCs so i'm leaning towards them.

The idea behind performance exhaust is to flow more air but at the same time not too much air... plain and simple. The motor is an air pump and your goal is to pump as much air as possible with the parts you have or with modification and after market parts.

That is as basic as it gets. The 4-2-1 is a better choice to the end game simply because it flows air better, and because you are pumping more air, you need more fuel and the only way to introduce more fuel is to increase jet orifice size (not always for every pipe) and subsequently adjust air mixed with that added fuel i.e. air/fuel mixture.

Carb tuning without the worlds best new friend... the OX Sensor is something of a challenge and takes a while to get the hang of things. I suggest you search for threads with discussion on the bike specific topic before you begin the journey :o

appreciate the info.

i already began the journey. my empty wallet can attest to that. i'm trying to soak in as much information about everything as i come across it with these bikes.

she's my sixth bike, but the oldest by 23 years so simply talking about carbs is a fairly new thing to me.

you guys have been more than helpful in helping me figure out what goes where, why this does this, etc. and i genuinely appreciate that.

back to the topic...this is me getting ahead of myself as my bike still isn't running (i guess it's normal for UPS to hold petcocks hostage), however i'm trying to plan ahead and as far as engine "performance" i think an exhaust is about the only mod i plan on doing for a while. i'd rather dump money into the brakes and suspension first.

i'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a used system, i suppose. it's hard to justify the $300+ that can be used towards tires, brakes, etc.
