I've never seen an airbox like that. Neat. Nice bracket for the coils - you mentioned you made the rearset brackets with common tools. How did you get the nice slot in the coil bracket? Bandsaw?

Shame you had to shave the paint off the frame to fit it though - are you refinishing the frame? It looks like it's been done, so I wasn't sure.

I sandblasted the frame and painted it with 3 coats of automotive paint (U-TEK 3.8 gloss black). I still have some other misc. parts to spray so I'll just touch up this section with a brush.

This is how I did the airbox. I just substituted a piece of carbon fiber insted of the OEM lower section. I cut 4 holes with a hole saw and used them "cheap" pods that you see on Ebay.

Lovely work there. Appreciate people who are very careful with their stuff. The airbox and rearsets are splendidly done. The detailing is perfect. Specially considering the fact that it was a DIY job.

That's chrome pin stripe on the airbox.

Thanks for the great compliment/s!
I had the engine completely tore down (top end anyway), which made things alot easier to refinish the head/cylinders before reassembly. I used high heat flat black paint then sanded the fin edges with sandpaper on a hard surfaced sanding block.

Chris, no the coils have a wired ground. I had to relieve a small amount of metal from that frame bracket is all.

quick update...Mounted the ballast resistors (to compensate for the 900 tci coils lower resistance)

Another mod was to swap out the old glass fuse block with the ATO fuseholders.

Found a decent S&S header (for now) and still scratching my head on what to do with the can??

I think I like that rusty front fender cause I'm too tired to give a S##T.... :-\

BTW Love the Spade design in the middle of the rearset bracket. Intentional or not, it is there.

Yes, do tell about the brake linkage. I like many need to find/make one of these.

The spade pattern was planned yes... For the brake lever, I can best explain it in below diagram.
All of the (welded) parts and linkages have been zink plated with a makeshift setup of my own. This is only a temporary rust prevention. These parts will be sent to be chromed over the winter (providing my wallet don't die of malnutrition!).

I have added a few more pics of where the brake light switch is mounted and the brake lever stop.

MIRRORS...hmmm..I'm definitely a 2 mirror person. I ride alot in multi lane traffic and feel safer with 2. I bought a set of bar enders but didn't like the "broad" look so I'm using these "Emgo Chic" mirrors for now. Feel free to throw some mirror ideas at me please!

Theres that nasty fender again :-[ ..I plan on shortening it up some front and back then matching it with tank/sidecovers colour.

Nice sticker on the old toolbox there. You've done a smashing good job on those rearsets. I'll be making mine next week..... hopefully. Took the week off of work, so I better have something to show for it. : It'll be the same basic idea as yours, but of course, probably not as nice looking. We'll see. I've got some machinist buddies, so I think I could get them to make me a few things.

I'm not too big of a fan of the huge bar-endies either, but the right ones do look nice. Look around a little and you might find some that will fit better. I'm searching for ones that don't stick out much at all, mainly just come up and kind of over your hands. The 400 is a small bike and it would look weird if I put big mirrors on it.

Well I got some more done on the ol girl. I have put about 200 miles on it so far (to iron out any mechanical bugs).
I retrofitted the bar enders to fit in the origional mirror perches. Another mod was to change the idiot lights to a more hidden area as opposed to the big guage light bracket on the handle bar clamp.I fabbed this part from a piece of aluminum.
The chainguard is off a Kawasaki.
Still need to get the seat upolstered and paint...and guage faces...and........
