73 Honda CB Carb Issue?

Hi There,

So I finally got my CB inspected and on the road. Had been riding it around the neighbourhood and it had been running great for the last couple weeks. Took it for the first legal ride two days ago and left cylinder was acting funny. Was a few blocks away so I rode it home. Took out the left plug, it was black so I cleaned it and put it back in and the left cylinder wouldnt fire. I replaced the plugs yesterday and the right cylinder is running great, the left cylinder is now firing, but bogging down really bad and wont idle. Is this a carb issue? Where should I start.

Sounds like a stuck float. Or the points on the left are not set, too wide a gap. Put a cloth in rnt of the exhaust then smell it, smell like gas, check points then check float movement.

I had a similar issue with my 78. It turned out to be the carbs were waaaay out of sync. It would only foul 2 of the 4 plugs.

Check your battery. I had a similar issue and I think it's the battery (haven't had time to swap it yet). Something about the old CB350s is that when the battery gets low, they don't fire right (at least that is what I have read). Mine did the same thing, exact. It's hard for me to think it is a carb issue at all because it ran great then didn't. Maybe as you rode it the battery drained, bring up this issue. Also, I checked my floats and levels and all was ok.

If you could please tell me what you find out on that battery. I am so sure I have the same issue, just too far from home to test this theory. Thanks

Sounds like it could be a million things, on a stock bike.
No idea if you have any mods that could make things worse(pods, short pipes, ect)

Get the factory service manual and go step by step through the tune up section.
