74 cb200 - Mistakes have been and will be made

Hey any updates on this build? I just got a 75 cb200 and like the direction your build is going in.

Sorry, I don't get much done in the summer. And I bought a 64 f100 that needs a bunch of work, too, but it's getting nowhere fast as well.

I am am about 3/4 way through the wiring. Just took the stock harness apart and cut out everything I didn't need.

This is the lower portion of my seat pan that will also hold the battery. No access to welders so I have to make use of all the stock bolts on the frame. It is not very symmetrical and nothing to be proud of but it will be hidden. It bolts under the rear gas tank clip in the front, the stock battery holder bolts in the middle, and I will drill holes in the rear frame hoop that will also serve to hold a simple taillight and license plate bracket. On this pan I cut and bent some tabs down in the middle and then some small slots on either side to pass big hose clamps through. The tabs will prevent a small sealed battery from sliding front and rear and the hose clamps will keep it tight to the bottom of the pan.

Then this is the upper portion of my seat pan that wil velcro to the lower portion (its sitting on top of the base pictured above). Will be easy to center it because I cut holes out to line up with the bolt heads underneath. Started shaping some minicell foam on top of it, not as easy as I thought it would be as I have inadvertently come up with a somewhat complicated pan shape with the bends in the rear - will have to do some shaping and sanding. Was going to cover it with quilted vinyl but this is taking so long I might just use a mexican blanket since it will be so much easier.

Covered both those pans in spray-on Plastidip. Bought a Lucas led taillight, too.
 
I need my kick start arm to be bent out about an inch to clear the muffler. Anyone have any ideas if any other Honda arms would bolt right on and have a bit of curve to get me around it?
 
Just saw this - have you thought about making it a pull start? That's what i ended up doing on my 175. There's not a lot of motor to turn over and all it requires is flipping the kickstart lever and making a custom handle so it doesnt chew up your hand.

Yeah I don't know if I'm into a handstart very much. I think I'll just have to get someone to help me bend it out.
 
You can use a small propane torch and a couple pipes to bend it. With enough heat it's pretty easy.
 
Well after cracking my wooden workbench where my vise is attached while trying to bend the arm, I figured I should check my parts bike. I felt lucky when I saw the heat marks on the parts bike arm....just tried it on the main bike and it clears the muffler by a quarter inch :)
 
Picking up a bit after not touching the bike all summer. Cut down the bars a little and you can kind of see my seat pan in these pics.

very nice, looking tough. how much did you cut off the forks.i am thinking of getting myself something similar to do up .i was also wondering if the rear wheel would fit into the front forks (mainly the spindle diameter) its just that i like the look of drums on the front .cheers nabzy.

I didn't cut any off of the forks, just lowered them about an inch and a half through the trees and clamped the bars on. I seriously doubt you could get the rear wheel in the front.

Not really, but trying to get back at it to get it done before June. 2nd Kid + selling a house = no time for bikes.
 
Am I winning the award for longest project yet?

All wired up (I think). Need to make a tail light and plate bracket and then all the other obvious things like carbs, cover the seat, get some levers and cables.

Whoa! Wasn't expecting to see bars like that! Looks good so far man, but have you tried the front brake at all with no fender? My cb200 front end didn't line up properly without one, but I've heard you can just throw a washer between the caliper mount and the fork to compensate.
