Cable disc brake is an upgrade?

Lol, well be its a small up grade over drum more or less in terms of weight than stopping power. It was a big deal back in its day to get the disc brake. As a 125 single, how much stopping power does it need? I suppose it could go to the next level of a hydraulic disc system if someone wanted to.
