The important thing DrJ said was 'motorcycle oil' regular car oil has slipper additives that will let your clutch slip. On my 13k RPM racer and both bikes alike, I use Rotella full synthetic. I'll have to check at home, but from memory, it is a 5W-40 mix.

On my bike engine car racer, I see oil temps get very, very high and the oil just keeps going. The oil pressure is very high as well. On the track, I subject the oil to these conditions for over 20 minutes each time. I love the stuff. Plus, it is dirt cheap.

unless you have some crazy Idea of running the backroads, between snow storms,,,,look at your dip stick..vintage honda lumps spec 10w-40.,,,,.50w has been known to blow out clutch push rod seals......nu gold(CHEAP) crappy tire 10w-30...for the first hour run in on your rebuilt engine(idling).......then dump it!!!! thinner oil will help the rings and pistons to seat faster!

Yup, I meant to say 10-40. During very hot summer weather I will use 20-50.

I also use rotella 5w 40. I have tried everything and searched on and on for the best stuff for our older bikes and I believe this is the best stuff for the buck.

One question. When one measures the oil in a honda CB is it true that you are to measure the amount of oil with the dipstick just perched on the top of the threads and not screwed all the way down? I got into a discussion with a friend about this and well here I am to find out the answer!

I'm pretty sure every manual out there specifies not threading the dipstick in - just perched. But of course, I could be 180 degrees wrong on that!
