Anyone used the Cycle-X multi-spark set up?

About to pull a motor, rebuild it. Figured it'd be a good time to upgrade some of the systems.
 
I just read through their system and I don't buy it. Unless there is a dyno chart to support it, I'm not sold.

I know dual spark on a CDI system can be effective, but I don't see it working on TCI. TCI still uses induction fired coils, so we're talking about waiting at least a millisecond (and probably closer to two) between the sparks. At 10,000 RPM, this means waiting between 6° and 12° of crank rotation before firing the second spark. More importantly, with the flame front traveling at around 20 meters per second, the entire combustion chamber will burn in around three milliseconds.

I'm not saying their system doesn't work or doesn't add benefit, but until I see some data, I'm not convinced.

As an electronic ignition, it might work just fine. As far as dual sparking goes... meh...

I haven't been able to find anyone using one on any of the forums, after I posted that here. That seems a bit off-putting.

It might be a perfectly good ignition system, I just doubt some of the claims.
Also, a few things to keep in mind when looking at optical systems:
  • They need to be kept clean. Dirt, oil, sludge, etc between the teeth on the encoder wheel will cause problems.
  • Generally (but not always) they have greater accuracy, but less precision. Based on the number of teeth on the wheel, they may only be able to handle changes of 3° or so. So every change in timing may be 3° at a time. But you can count on 3° really being 3° and not jumping around.

The one they have labeled as EL-015 looks like CDI. The coils are on the plugs. We use optical sensors for flame recognition a lot on kilns. They do fail when they get dirty, but you'd be surprised how much it takes.

I think the coils are separated because it's a non-wasted spark system. The coils look a little too big to be CDI, but they could be coil-on-plug. Not all coil-on-plug systems are CDI, though.
