Tubes as in inner tube of the rear tire. You got me all confused. ???

Sorry I was really unclear....
the OEM exhaust has double wall head pipes so that the chrome doesn't blue as much. I think the ID of the inner tubing is something like 1/25" rather than the honkin' 1.875-ish of the chrome. Like I said...not a huge deal but one to be aware of just the same...

Good luck MN. He hasn't been on here for ages. I'm wanting to do the 3-3 so my exhaust will be up for grabs once I get the new welded in the distant future.

There are a few current builds going on:

Koconut
ldordai
CobraRad
rocketman
and of course mine

My knowledge isn't as extensive as Swaggers but I can locate any bit of info for these bike sand have a lot of it saved to email if you need anything. Definitely check out yamaha-triples.org; as that place is getting a lot more attention recently.

Can anyone tell me how to go about lightening the flywheel on an XS 750 / 850? I would like to retain the charging capabilty of the stator

yes - I guess my question is more related to how the charging works - is making the "walls" of the flywheel thinner going to prevent it from charging?
