Re: 1977 cb750f2 Spokes built up

I got as much done as I could today, still waiting for my new brake rotors to come in so I can really get into the fine tuning of the spoke wheel swap. The front wheel and spacers are done, and the fron wheel is centered. I had to machine about 3mm off the left side spacer and about 1.5mm off the speedo drive to get the wheel to center up between the forks. I have to wait for my rotors to be finished (having them drilled and resurfaced) before I can fit the brake calipers.

Re: 1977 cb750f2 Spokes built up

Well, to make the spoke conversion happen is going to take a bit more time. The 77f front end is too narrow to run the 76f hub with dual disc, the disc wont allow the front wheel to fit into the forks. Solution: I have a 77 GL1000 front end and brakes on the way that I will rebuild. This sucks because now I have a perfect 77f front end with progressive springs, Torazzi brace, billet preload adjusters, billet stem cap that I can't use. (maybe I need a new project to put it on) The GL1000 front end will completely overhauled with racetech springs, gold valve emulators, fresh powder, superbrace and 1 inch shorter tubes by Frank.

The rear wheel will mount up pretty easily with just some minor modifications to the rear spacers.

Pics coming

Re: 1977 cb750f2 Spokes built up

how much you dropping the front? i have progressives in my G wing front end (it is an 80 but basicly the same) also you can upgrade the braking to a duel piston like they run on the 82+ goldwings if you just be sure you get the bracket with it... would make a night and day diff on stopping power. I have the stock tubes and added a dampter spacer (drilled out to allow oil flow) and cut the top section to get a 2 in drop and have PLENTY of travel still... if i am not mistaken the brakes you have a single pistons (same ones i have on the wing) but the duell are where it is at, i was just cheap and did not want to pop for them... here are pics of both to show you...
i have links for good prices on rebuilds for them as well... plus i ran 15 W in the forks on both my brothers and the bratt wing build... with the fork brace my brothers wing handles like a sport bike... ill have to see where he keeps his air pressure in there i know he played wiht a few settings
nice part about the new g wing forks is they will fatten up the front end and that will really really help in the turns and strait aways...

Duel piston
(sorry i have to find a close up pic for you... of course they have been torn apart powdered, and rebuilt, then fresh goodyear lines)

Re: 1977 cb750f2 Spokes built up

Man I love your Gl's Joe.

I am dropping the front an inch which will bring the front down closer to the stock ride height of a stock 750f. Yes, I am sticking with the single piston brakes off a 77 GL. I know the dual pistons would provide better stopping power but the singles on a dual brake set up with my light 750 will work great.

I can't believe how much beefier the GL front end is compaired to the 750, I love the look.

Re: 1977 cb750f2 rear wheel and oil cooler done

Finished the rear wheel swap. the rear hub off the 76 cb750f worked great. Just needed to do some slight adjustments to the spacers.

I have the gl1000 front end and brakes completely torn down and ready to go to powdercoat on Monday morning. I love the look, much better than the comstars, IMO.

Re: 1977 cb750f2 Spokes built up

Got some more garage time in today. I added my NOS lockhart oil cooler and adapter. I also put an inline manual bypass valve from Jeggs for cold weather riding.

Gl1000 forks and brakes should be back from powdercoat this week so I can get the front end buttoned up this coming weekend.

Re: 1977 cb750f2 rear wheel/oil cooler done

Spoke wheel / GL1000 front end is complete. I still need to bleed the brakes and while the tank is off I plan on synching the carbs.

Re: 1977 cb750f2 spoke conversion done

Today I was able to get my stainless yoshi replica pipes mounted up. Modified my foot / brake control brackets to fit with the new pipe.
