1978 Honda CB400A
Been a while since I have participated here but the weather is getting nicer in New England so I fired up the bike and she started up fine and idled great. Here are the symptoms though:
1. The bike revs fine when in idle but as soon as I put it in gear it rides extremely slow as though it was on one cylinder (more on this...).
2. I rebuilt the carbs this winter. Soaked them, air blasted them, new gaskets, new needles, new jets etc...
3. I checked the spark and it's strong on both cylinders.
4. The choke does NOT affect the engine performance. I can see the mechanism pulling on the spring but no response on the idle.
5. I noticed that when I turned the bike off, the left Cylinder exhaust was only warm to the touch. So I turned the fuel back on and took out the bowl drain screw and NO fuel came out.
So, I'm guessing the left carb is getting no fuel (obviously). But do I also have an issue with my choke connection? Or does the choke only affect the same carb that's not getting fuel? I think this might be the case but I don't remember...
Where do I start with the fuel situation? Maybe the bowl is simply stuck? Or is there a way I can try to get fuel to the carb without taking the carb out of bike (total headache)? Maybe I can blow compressed air into where the fuel hose enters the carb with the drain plug open? Maybe this would free things up... I'm open to any recommendations!!!
