what size of fuel line did this thing originally come with? i've searched and looked at the manual and i can't find the answer. also, the size of the fuel petcock. or does the size even matter as long as it matches the carb/petcock size?

It's either 5/16" or 1/4" ID. Leaning towards 5/16", but I can't remember. If you got one of the parts loose, just take it down to the local auto parts store and tell them you need some fuel line that matches the barb on the part.

i have the carbs out...will that work?

Yep. Just take the carb to the parts store, slap it on the counter and tell them you need some fuel line to fit it.
