78 CX500 taillight wiring issue

Having an issue with the wiring for the taillight to have it operational, when it's all hooked up the break light works when the brake is engaged but the taillight won't stay on, now if key is put in the "P" position both are operational. If I wire the taillight directly to the battery both will be operational BUT the taillight will stay on even when the bike is off completely, this is impractical since I'm not going to ride around with a screwdriver in my pocket to disconnect it every time I stop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can find the wiring diagram here if you really would like to assist me. Could be a bad ignition switch. Make sure you have power coming from the Brown wire on your ignition switch when the key is on.

If it is a bad ignition switch I can give you a link to cleaning and refreshing the switch.........or you can order a new one from Niche Cycles

If it works in the 'P' position it's going to be the switch as it's the same wiring just different contacts on the switch. The switch can be pulled apart but for the price just but a new one.
