79 CB750K, RCB clone-ish build

Mr.Rat, I really feel I must once again counsel you against your current path. I know you really really REALLY want something spiffy and awesome, but perhaps you're bitten off more than you can chew. Without digging thru the entirety of this adventure in motoschizzophrenia again, my impression is that you may be a bit light on weld/fab skills and experience. Please don't take this as a jab or any form of putdown, because it's not. It's simply an obnservation (one that several of us have tried to point out to you) that you're in over your head.
It's easy to slap some parts together and decide they "feel" right....but a totally different situation when it comes to riding a machine whose sole reason for existance is to kill you in the most brutal and gooey way possible. Once again take this as you will but I wouldn't ride your bike, set up like this, for anyone's money.

It does look like the swinger slots in fairly well and the added wheelbase in the back can only help, but leave the mono shock conversion for your next build. You can have shock mounts welded onto that swinger for cheap and run a pair of nice shocks in the stock location. You may still need uprated springs due to the added leverage ratio (extra length) but most good shocks should have enough adjustment to take care of it. Serious man, even if you get it all welded up and it doesn't collapse the frame or crack it or cause tank slappers or tracking stability issues or have excessive squat or too much travel etc etc etc..you're STILL going to have to get the shock revalved and almost assuredly a new spring, just to get it servicable (not tuned...just servicable) Figure for $250-$400 to get the shock reworked and then paying someone to try and tune the setup to actually perform could run you nearly as much. Sounds like fun to me. Woooooo!

This is the last I'll say on this becasue frankly I don't want to see anyone here get hurt or worse bacause of their own actions and I think I'm done with this. Not meaning to be hard one you but you're making decisions based on bling rather than real honest consideration and that's just dumb. Best of luck, I hope you survive this....trek.

I have to say I kinda agree with Swagger. The mount for the shock that you showed just really doesn't look right. I think for your bike the dual shocks look good. I'm not gonna say you can't pull it off, but it just don't look right. With that said, keep it up.

No problem indeed. Like i said before I think it will look better, more vintage. You can later upgrade to reservoir shocks that would really fit the bill.

may i suggest something for your chain clearing issue, most motox bikes use these. nylon is extremely tough just letting you know. you might have to go with at taller gear also.

Its not a functioning mount. He flipped the swingarm upside down. Those mounts are for the dogbones.

Maybe this has already been brought up.

Having the swingarm flipped upside down? Is that swingarm offset like most others I know of? If it is offset, wouldn't that push the sprocket off to far to the right? Or did you make special bushings for it? :-\ ???

I am not familiar with the swingarm you are using, maybe its symmetrical, but I would put my money down that it isn't.

If you can do a mono conversion and have it safe and workable, that that's cool.....as for me, I like to jsut improve on what the bike already has.....still good options for twin shocks.....but again, I know what you are looking for, and it can be done, but you just need to REALLY ensure that you are not building a deathtrap.

I'm new here and I'm trying to build a CR out of my 79 CB750k. This was my first bike I bought when I was 17. I joined the military and everything got put on hold for a few years. Last winter I got it together and rode it for the first time. This winter I have "Other" plans for it. I will let the pics do the talking.

Thanks

Its an original Dunstall fiberglass tank with one of Carpys FG fairings. I made a sub frame for the tank to bolt to my bike without heavily modding ether the tank or the bike. Right now Im working on the seat and tail. I already posted this in the FNG section and will start a thread here sharing everything I'm doing.

The tail... I have two ideas for it... I Dont know if I want to make a soft one part of my seat or make a fiberglass copy of the back part of my tank for a matching profile... I bought some plaster yesterday to make a mold and eventually a copy. Carbon fiber?

So for all those interested, here's the ass in progress:

Cut the front end of the seat off to account for the longer tank.
