79 CB750K Rear Tail Shaping

I must be bored. I took off the fairing this afternoon and mounted the mini turn signals and made an aluminum license plate bracket. The LED tail lights came in today and I should have them mounted tomorrow. I'll post the latest picture after the tail lights go on. The bike looks a lot cleaner without the fairing.

I may part with the pipes. Shoot me an email or pm me.

For the pinstriping I had my graphics guy cut some 1/16" pinstripes the same color as the Honda Logo I had him do. The color is "arrest me red". 1/8" pinstripes look too thick. I was looking for something a little more conservative. After the base coat I sanded with 1000 grit then applied the graphics and pinstripe...following the contours of the tank indents. Once they were on I used some cleaner to clean the stripes and logo then shot 3 coats of clear. After the clear I sanded with 1500 then 2000. Final step was to compound then polish. I think it turned out pretty nice.

I can hardly wait to put the carbs and tail lights on so I can get back to riding. The next project is to complete the XR350 and start on some minor things on the XS650. I like the bike even better without the fairing.

Here's the tail lights and mini turnsignals mounted and a pic without the fairing. Carbs and seat next.

Without Fairing

So what do you think? With or without fairing?

Without the fairing.

And if you can you should get some aftermarket headlight ears and lower down the light. Then your front end wouldn't look as high (had the same thing goin on with my bike).

Love the two round taillights. That's similar to what Im planning on doing.

Bike is looking great.

Just went for a ride....yeeeeehaaaaaa!

Here's the pics with the bike in running order. Just have to make a seat cover now.

Man, that looks great. I think black fork tubes and black rear shock springs would really tie it all together. But that's just me...I like black...

Awesome work.

I liked the headlight fairing! I like the CB750's and yours is a class act.
Nice work on the seat, I'm about to start on mine, and as my frame rails aren't straight I'm going to lay a fibreglass seat pan like you've done, and build it up to be straight and you've done me a big favour by giving me idea's for those brackets / mounts you made and glassed in.

Once you took a mould from the plug, did you skim the whole thing with body filler to smooth it then sand?

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, once I popped the plug off I did a lot of finish sanding and bondo to get the smooth shape I wanted. Then just normal paint process. I took the bike to my upholsterer to do a leather cover ($60). I'll post a couple more pictures when I get back to the shop this week. I'm currently working on my XS650 bobber and a couple of old classic trucks (1950 chevy 5 window and a 66 C-20).

Would love to see some pics of your project. These are much bigger than the early 750's and I think a bit more refined. Good luck.

Awesome work man. After reading this thread, I've decided to abandon my old, half gas tank, half street sign tail section and try my hand at some fiberglass. I love the shape you did, and i'm gonna try to replicate your mounting method on my 72 cb750. Great work. Can't wait to see pics of the pad on the seat.

Your bike looks great! At some point in my life I'd like to do a 50 Chevy makeover.

Here's a pic of the 1950 5 window. I plan on taking it back apart and rebuilding it (perhaps a different color) this year.

I am in Charlotte too! If you decide to make more seats, please let me know. I may be interested.
