80 gs450 engine in cb360?

I found a cheap gs450 that runs and drives close to my house, the only problem is no title. Since my 360 engine is currently being rebuilt and its winter time I was thinking about trying to put the gs450 engine in the 360 frame. I know this isn't too much of an improvement from the 360 engine roughly 9 or 10 more hp it is more to have a running bike while I rebuild and improve the 360 (Want to do the 500+ cc build I saw here a while back). What I was wondering is if anyone has done this or something similar? I have yet to get the gs450 and I haven't seen the size of the engine except in a picture so my main concern is will it fit?

Also any gs450 owners that have some information on the bike would help!

Any insight and comments appreciated! Thanks!

The bottom end on a GS is pretty big......I can get some generic measurements maybe in a couple hours.

Also look around for a GS500 if the 450 does fit. Same bottom end (pretty much)

15 5/8" front to back where the cases would be split, and the oil pan is about 7" across. The motor is in the frame, so that's the best I can do on the bottom end......

You can make it happen, but you'll destroy all the stocm motor mounts and have to make all new ones for the GS lump. Then when the original motors done, you'll have to do it all over again.

Also, 10hp is a very respectable upgrade for a motorcycle. Think power to weight. That's what matters. 10hp may not be much on a 4000lb car, but on a 350lb bike it's plenty.

Thanks! yeah if you can get some measurements that would be great, no rush though! And i think ive heard about the gs500 bottom end being the same as a 450. I believe i read somewhere that people put gs500 cylinders on 450 bottom ends with a gr650 (Could be wrong) head on it.

Yeah i figured the mounts would have to be fabricated so when i finish the other engine maybe ill just keep the gs450 engine in my 360 and build a track bike.;D

I also heard the stators and charging systems of gs450's were better than the 360s is this true? because i was contemplating a battery eliminator on my 360 but heard the charging system wasn't strong enough and something like the double stator would be necessary to do it correctly but if anyone has put a battery eliminator on a 450 without any problems, what you used (eliminator/wiring diagrams/etc) and how you did it would be extremely helpful.

Thats great, thank you very much!

The charging system on a GS is notoriously bad (can't say it's better or worse than a CB though). Luckily, the charging system from a GS500 bolts right in and can be found cheap.

All CB twin charging systems are relatively weak. Battery eliminators (capacitors) are a pain in the ass. Spend the money on a nice high tech super compact battery. It's a way better solution.

Ahh interesting makes sense that they match since their bottom ends are the same.

Yeah that is probably what ill do then. Thanks.
