Been Around the Block
Here's a before and after of my 80'GS450. Its my first attempt and leaves alot to be desired, I put a GS450S tank on it, which looks HUGE but its growing on me. I need to figure out how to make rear sets, add a tail light. Also, i need to do something with the stock speedo/tach because right now they look ugly antennas

That's a big improvement already. If you don't change the gauges you could move them down more so that aren't just sticking right out at the top. Just fabricate a new bracket

A small round trailer light cut in to the back of your bump seat would work for the rear light.

Ya man, good work so far. Have you tried to run the bike much without the airbox?

Thanks everybody!I think ill probably shorten the seat a bit,
Yeah, the bike is running good, i re-jetted when I put the pods on. Had to go way up. Im thinking of putting in velocity stacks though

Man that's a night and day difference. Bike looks awesome already. Keep it up and keep them pics coming

That looks a lot better! I was wondering if you got pics during the GS450S tank fitment.

This is what I'm thinking.
For me, I'm using a 1979 Suzuki GS400 gas tank. The front tank mounts are more narrow than the stock GS450L's. I have to cut off the stock coil pack mounts just so that I can put the gas tank on. Then I'll relocate the coils between the 2 bars and under the backbone. Then I will need to cut off the front tank mounts and relocate it into the hole right in front of the stock tank mounts. Shorten the front tank mounts a little bit then weld it into the hole. Is that what you did? Or similar?

I hammered the stock coil mounts down and under the frame, and then bolted the coils back onto the stock mounts, so they sit betweem the frame and the top of the cylinder head cover, I was going to cut them off but thought i might as well try that first and it seems to work fine,im sure you could come up with somethign nicer but let me know if you want a pic

I was just going to cut off and grind smooth the coil mounts then get some 1979 GS400 coil mounts. So that it sits in the spare space under the back bone near the top of the engine.

I would like to see pics of how you did when you can.

just wondering how that tank fit on did it go right on or did u have to make it fit???
You have to make it fit but it's very easy. All you need is a dremel with a cut off disk, grinder, and a welder.

Assuming that you are doing this on a 1980-1982 GS450L, you have to cut off the coil mount brackets then grind that area smooth. After that, you cut off the front tank mounts and weld it into the hole right in front of it. Simple.

You can check out how I did it on my build thread here. It's on page 5.

Looks like you're going to need either a bigger rear wheel or a shoterter frontend. Otherwise it looks great. Love that tank.

Hey Dennis, nice to see your bike over here! Just joined DTT and looking for other 450's around the place...

And forgot to say it's pete from the GSR... someone already has pete over here...
