81 Suzuki Gs 750E First Build

Bought a Gs 750E a month ago from a guy in Edmonton. It has 48xxx km and has the square headlight. (is that a special model or something?) He used it as a daily rider until the front break caliper started siezing up and the fork seals needed replacement. The bike starts and runs like a dream, well after un-seizing the front break pistons it did. Still need to replace the fork seals. I have been doing a lot of research into the cafe style bikes. And found out some real good do's and dont's. So this passed weekend I was able to pull everything apart so that i can take the next while to really think out my design and get a good game plan. Im thinking on keeping it relatively simple in only changing the seat, putting on clip ons and new lights ect. Going to keep away from pod filters because i have limited knowledge in carbs, and re-jetting them sounds like it can be a real hair puller.

Dude, that's a nice GS! Honestly, if it runs like a dream, give it a good look and keep it comfy. I'd shorten your stock seat, keeping your rear seat cowl. And I'd change your lights and handlebar. That's about it. I love the GSs, and I think they are great to ride DAILY. Unless you're wanting to turn it into a toy that'll really take off. You can always do smaller performance mods later.

For the period they were surprisingly elegant bikes, somehow combining bulk and dumpy styling into a flowing, low looking whole. If it were mine i'd also keep it of stock appearance, but it ain't mine, it's yours! Should make a nice, subtle café scoot.
