we just dropped out of FTL
hey everyone..new but reading a lot. I am glad to join DTT with hopes to one day to DTT. I am currently the proud new owner of a 1981 CB125s. I got it in a trade with my buddy. I hope to turn it into a cafe racer. This is my first ever real motorcycle so I want to do it right. I have watched many of CRTV and I think I'm learning a lot. If anyone can give me tips for my bike or where I can get parts, I will buy you a root beer.

Welcome to DTT. The 125 is a great first project. Inexpensive, simple, and a blast to scoot around town on.

First up, try and come up with a game plan. Decide on a basic idea of what you want from the bike. Full on cafe racer with clip ons, rearsets, stripped down body work, etc? Or do you want a simpler, more cafe "inspired" kind of bike? Just basic mods to make a mostly stock machine more "yours"?

As far as parts, find a local MC junk yard asap. Also, they still make the 125 for non US markets (not sure where you're located) so EM parts can be found. Many through the local Honda dealer. EBay is also a wealth of small displacement Honda parts as long as you don't mind waiting longer for oversees shipping.

Best bet is to start a build thread here. Post up some pics of bikes you like. Bikes you'd like to try to emulate. That will give us (and you) a better idea of where to start.

Oh, amd maybe most importantly. Set a budget for the build. Once you hage it all finalized, double it. :)
 
Nice choice for a first time bike. I had one of those in '70.

Swap out that poor 6 volt system using a CB350 12 volt stator. I've done it to my son's bike. H4 35w bulb is much better than stock.
