Adding oil pressure flow sensor

Texasstar

Can't is a four letter dirty word
Do you think adding an oil/flow sensor through one of the valve adjustment caps is a good idea? The cb200 has had issues with flow to the cam. Want to measure twice and cut once if you know what I mean. Been reading some Honda racing history.

"The development of the Honda racers followed a certain pattern, going through a test phase in three stages. First the lubrication system is checked, so that any part that could suffer a premature death through a deficiency of oil can be supplied with a bit more of it. Once that is found right, the heat generation and cooling is checked. With a little bit of oil here and an extra cooling fin there, the engine can be made thermically healthy. The last stage is measuring the power. If this is not sufficient, cam timing and inlet / exhaust lengths are changed, and the whole story starts again. In general, with racing motorcycles, the maximum engine speed is approximately between 5 and 10 % higher than the speed for maximum power. For very short periods, an even higher speed is permitted, e.g. during changing down." ~Honda 4 stroke racing history

Whoever wrote that was either ill informed or is trying to hard to oversimplify things. Either way, he's got it back to front. How does he explain the first 6 in 64 which overheated badly.

With race bikes, the first call is for more power and then it has to be somewhat useable and then find ways to make it last long enough to finish a race. Who would start with lubrication and thermal gradients first and then look for more power which changes the things you just worked on.

There is nothing to measure under the valve caps other than gaps. It might be possible to tap into the end caps or towers as they are also known but the pressure is very low and flow rates are not so high either.
It's an interesting question. If you know of an electronic pressure measuring switch that could be hooked up to an electronic gauge, that might be a nice upgrade.

Most automotive oil pressure gauges are designed to measure up around 60-80psi and we need something closer to 2-4psi. I like the idea.
