ALMOST THERE!!!!

I have a 1972 cb450 that ive been working on for two years now. I took two days to time it correctly and its on spot. I have cleaned the carbs and there is gas getting to the engine. All the electrical checks out especially since i did the wiring myself. When i go to kick the bike it turns over and some exhaust fumes come out, but occasionally there is a loud exhaust noise and it sounds like its ready to start, but then doesnt. I found out that there is gas on the spark plug when i removed the plug to check spark (which im getting). COuld this be the problem? also Ive been messing with the idle screw and still nothing seems to be working. i can tell its almost ready to fire on its own but its not quite there yet. any help would be appreciated!!!

so found at that the floats in my carbs are metal, and arent floating when the float bowl is full.....im assuming thats the problem.....any ideas if the floats should be plastic?

I responded to your other thread, but will answer here as well. Floats on 450's are made of brass. Should not make any noise when you shake them.
