Another North Texan...CM 450 Custom

Good to be here - found this site through a buddy of mine ChrisF - and thanks to his efforts to build another cafe style 70's era Honda, I was the beneficiary of a bike found in his search. Over the last several years I have worked on a variety of projects with Chris, including his Locost Seven, a '69 CB350, and my custom chopper. I'm not new to bikes, but I am new to Japanese bikes. I've got some history fabricating - and grew up the son of a devoted "garage built" streetrodder in Southern California.

I don't have the honda in my posession yet, but I have pics that I will upload if I can - if not now, then when I start the build process (planning to document it here).

It appears to be pretty rough, home-covered seat, a tank that has been thoroughly abused, and a bit of rust here and there - nothing tragic or unfixable, and the best or worst part depending on your view...it has the Comstar Mag Wheels. Admittedly they are among the ugliest mags I've seen, but I plan to polish them out and use them for the build.

Nice! You know this bike bike is going to be unbelievable, right?

Like he said, Sam helped me build the se7en(http://www.fiaccone.com)--80 hours worth in the last week alone. We built his chopper together, my cl350 together and the CB360 this weekend. The latest project is the CM450. Does anyone have any cool pics of the CM450 cafe?

Frisco... Directly North of Dallas about 20 miles...
 
I almost took a job at Lockheed about 4 years ago. They are in a small town south of Fort Worth called White Settlement. Have you been out to Possum Kingdom resovoir yet? It is about 2 hours west of Fort Worth. Very cool lake..... BIG!!
 
So Sam, lets see some pics of that new tank you bought. He hasn't even received the bike yet and he's already buying parts...

Here it is - I have an idea of where I am headed from a looks perspective - This tank caught my eye because of the downward sloping lines in the front. If it is too short, which I have no idea if it will be, I'll stretch it a few inches by cutting it in half and welding in a sheetmetal join...I plan to paint the tank rather than powdercoat, so I can skimcoat it with bondo to hide the "stretchmarks"!
 
Chris - If you wouldn't mind, post a pic of the bike on your garage wall...that's a rough outline of where I am headed... thanks!

That tank is AWESOME!!! I wouldn't even repaint it... maybe new clear to seal it up... but it looks badass just as it is.

With regards to your Comstars. Yours are the stronger ugly version. Originally the stampings were turned with the return to the inside - nicer looking but not as strong.

For what it worth my old 750 Super Sport has the weaker Comstars and I've beat that bike hard for almost a decade. Never had any concerns.

They are ugly...but I think with the right amount of effort, they can be beautified... My first thought when I saw them was that they might just be the ugliest wheels I have ever seen on a motorcycle. Being strong and ugly myself, I've figured out how to make it work! ;D
 
From one North Texan (Fort Worth) to another, Welcome. That looks like it is going to be an awesome build. Any plans on attending the mods vs. rockers rally in March?
 
I'm familiar with it, though this build will likely span '08 into '09!

I'd definitely be down for checking it out though...
