Anybody want to share their other hobbies?

I currently have 3 hobbies. Motorcycles, brewing and R/C airplanes. Although my current work schedule leaves little time for any of them.

lol arent stills illegal?

Only if you sell your product. Don't think it's illegal if you distill for personal use. That's a nice set up. What kind of mash are you using?

hahaha, Depends oif you get caught. I think he is just adding CO2 to his beer there. I'm not sure though. Looks cool!

It is illegal to distill your own "spirits" even if you don't sell it. It is legal, however, to brew your own beer.

That is just a counterflow wort chiller. A heat exchanger used to cool the beer down to room temp rapidly so the yeast can be pitched as fast as possible. That thing will chill the beer down from boiling to 75°F as fast as I can pump it through with nothing but tap water to cool it. Amazing! The picture is me getting ready to pump the beer from the boil kettle through the heat exchanger to the fermenter.

I'm an extract brewer so I don't bother with the mash.

That is way cool. So do you pitch your yeast at 75*F? (hey why do I not have the Deg thingy on my keyboard?) Anyhow I make wine and pitch most of my yeast at just over 100*F (If i remember right). I know I just pitched some Montrachet last week at 105*F . I just started 5 gal of Grape/cranberry. Figure it might be ok to drink for our DTT get together in July.

So does the rapid temp change improve taste or is it just to speed up the process?

I looked into it a few years ago. If I recall correcty, it's "illegal" to even own a still in the U.S. unless you pay a special tax on it. Just like a silencer for pistols, you can own it, but gotta pay a special tax on it too.

The degree symbol isn't on a keyboard. You have to hold down "ALT" and type "0176"

°

I try to pitch my yeast as close to the fermentation temp as possible which is 65-72° for ales (~55° for lagers). I use the chiller to bring the temp down as fast as I can to minimize the time when the yeast is not the dominant "bug" in the brew to minimize the risk of infection. It also speeds up my brewing day.

Had a side line making toys for adults if you know what I mean. It went by the way side when a partnership broke. I still maintain the website in hopes of kicking it off again. Let me tell you I learned a lot about pharmaceutical grade silicone and casting acrylic.

I've been toying with the idea of doing clear acrylic float bowls for carbs. I'll be testing out some fuel resistant material early in 2010. The cool thing about it is that I can tint the acrylic practically any color of the rainbow, and they are relatively easy to cast. If it works out I'll start to casting on demand.

I'll have to post pics later, seems the website has been hacked by the Chinese again. >:(

Id like to know how casting those float bowla work out, those would look sick on my GT. We looking into trying to cast some acrylic pieces for a few other projects

Fishing flies and hand carved plugs. Couple older Dodge pickups (1949 and 1969), cheaper than the late 50s Vettes I used to mess with (barely, Dodge parts ain't cheap). Hand making a fiddle. Knife maker. Custom gun stocks and pistol grips. Wooden toy making. 1985 Celica GT-S sleeper. Miniature horse that I need to build a sled or sleigh for. Organic garden, semi-free range chickens. Too many coyotes and cougars in the area to free range the birds full time.

I'm a heavy export trucker during the week. Home most nights but time is still tight. Mostly haul dairy products, fruits and frozen potato products bound for Asia and the middle east. So long as I don't have to eat the stuff... :P

I like to build and fly RC planes when I'm not on the bike. Here are a few of my recent projects:

Man, there are some talented dudes on here. Cafe-XV750 you are an artist with the Stangs. And whitexk it's too cool that you wakeboard and longboard.

I got into longboarding last year when my nephew started his own boardbuilding company.

I enjoy fly fishing more than any of my other hobbies.

And I play the sax.

Motorcycles and fabrication. I have redesigned my GT750 three times, but have actually ridden it very little. I enjoy riding, but creating something from raw stock is more fun to me.

well other than riding the hell outta the bikes, heres a list before pics...build work on bikes and cars from choppers-cafes and vws-muscle cars-hot rods, build and race barstools skateboard, freebord (like snowbord on pavement), snowbord, mountain bike, metal sculture, little photography...ton of stuff i guess
