Anyone made bicycle style foot pegs?

you should be able to pick up a pedal at a local bike shop for a couple dollars, or free. they should even be able to order you the taps needed for the holes... one pedal is reverse thread, so they come as a set of two. otherwise its either a 9/16 size or 1/2 inch, depending on if its a multi piece crank, or one piece crank.

but in my honest opinion, the pedal for the kick starter is fucking played out to all hell.

yeah I'm big into all kinds of bicycles and know this stuff about threading etc. I was more interested in seeing them used on motorcycles. As for being played out, I really don't think it is possible with this application to be played out. It's like saying seat humps are played out. It's what people did, and do, and probably will always...except the pedal was around before the seat humps.

some folding bikes have folding pedals that would be nice to use since it would tuck out of the way a bit more when not in use....

2/3 of bobbers i see have the pedal kicker.
2/3 of cafes i see have the rear hump.
99 percent of 4 stroke motors have valves.

2/3 of the things mentioned above have a legitimate function other than aesthetics. just my 2 cents. :D

i still don't understand the reason for the hump other than hiding the battery which raises the center of gravity. The pedal kicker has a larger surface area than most standard kickers making it less plausible to slip off. I also really just want to see them used as foot pegs anyway, not necessarily only for a kicker pedal. I know one guy who has them as pedals but he used giant mountain bike pedals when are gangly.

my battery is hidden underneith where my ass goes, not in the hump. plus its small as possible, for less weight.

reason for the hump? so that your ass doesnt go sliding off the rear of the bike as your hitting the ton. :D

granted, most bikes here dont have enough power for that, but thats what they are there for.

That is probably just as well with some of the odd tires and slammed looks. ::) ;D ;D

As for bicycle pedals, it's your bike, you don't need anyone's permission, but seriously, it's worn out, passé. IIRC they were used on the kickstarter of some Indians back in the twenties. So if you're building a twenties US style bobber that would look spot on.

played out? I still don't get this. I've only seen one bike that I can recall with bike pedals as footpegs. Yes, many have pedals for the kickstart.........but I'm not really talking about the kickstart in this instance, I'm talking about the actual pegs you put your feet on while you ride.

Cafe racers are soo played out, passé. IIRC, they were all made of BSA's, Nortons, Triumphs, Matchless and early Japanese bikes. So if your building a Cafe' styled bike, go buy one of those ::)

I like 'em as a kicker. Especially on a bigger cc bike. Never seen them used as foot pegs. Seems like they might be kinda large.

well, cruisers use floor boards.

I don't think the pedals would work great as pegs IMO. If your dedicated to bicycle parts, look for smaller BMX pegs.

I already have a set of those. I was playing with the bmx peg idea a year ago and bought them, but never used them. I wojuld prefer the cruiser pedals from yesteryear if I go this route though.

AHHH, as foot pegs. NOW i get you.

i say try it. but im not a fan of floorboards. just more control with pegs. youll have trouble finding a way to mount them up and keep them from pivoting.

That's pretty leading edge.

i can't tell but I think that's sarcasm, right?

For the pivoting of the pedals, a couple tac welds should stop that. I'm guessing I could use a drill press and bore out holes large enough for the mounting, but since I have neither my bike within reach or pedals I'm not certain there is enough material for that and I may have to sleeve it.

Pawn, humor doesn't always work the way it's intended, so let's try again. What sort of bike are you building or was that it? For something that is in the image of say an early American bike, they would probably look fine. On a completely custom bike in the bobber mold, they would probably look appropriate too.

But that's just my personal style opinion. :)

this is my bike as of a couple weeks ago (now the fender is actually mounted and I have my seat pan waiting for me to upholster it with white vinyl tucked and rolled):
