Well, just as I'd feared, due to grant money being slashed, it looks like the non-profit I work for cannot afford my salary. This is the nature of grants, they run out of money... Because I am such an efficient bastard, I don't really have anything to do until my last day which is 6 weeks from now. Guess you all will be seeing an explosion of posts from me, eh? :) Time to dust off and update the old resume. Thing is, I've been wanting to finish my cafe projects and make the move towards building and selling them. This would just move the time frame up a bunch as I had planned on first taking welding classes (this spring). This could be just the push I need. This turn of event now places me in the uncomfortable position of not being able to contribute to the household finances, at least until I start earning immediately after that last paycheck. Now, gotta suck it up and break the news to the wife.

ehh.. you have 6 weeks to think about how you are gonna break it to her... Break the bad news down into weeks.. ie:
week 1 - "hey babe.. guess what?... there are some rumors at the office that...."
week 2 - "hey babe.. guess what?... the whole accounting group got let go today... mabe I should start looking..."
week 3 - "hey babe.. I think I really should start looking for a job just in case..."
week 4 - "hey babe...guess what... The are more rumors around about losing a grant.. dont worry. I have interview this week.."
week 5 & 6 - etc..etc... you get the idea...

this prevents a total womanly freak out!!..

BTW.. what kind of work would you be looking for?

Sorry to hear about that, man. I agree with Loco Leon on the gradual approach.

Going to look in the NP world still?

We are hiring at our dealership. If you can swing a hammer, and breath on your own you are perfect. Please have your own card board box for your tools though. We are tired of giving them out to the new hires to bring there tools in.

Located in CA, and we have only had 7 shootings so far this year :D

Wifey supportive as hell. We have discussed this and sort of saw it coming. But since the program continued into '11, I thought the storm had passed. Not so lucky... Don't know what industry I'll concentrate on. I'm just going to see what's out there. Ever heard this saying, "The only thing worse than not having a job, is looking for one"? The search begins!

I am in the exact same boat, sir. I got laid off in november, but they extended my employment until January 28th. Three more weeks until I am officially unemployed. My company bought another company in Canada and all of our jobs are going to the great white north. Anyone know of a PCB Designer gigs in the Metro DC area?

I hear ya brother, i have my own bike shop sort of thing out of my garage. It dosent make me rich but i can pay the bills. Long story short, i started getting realllllly slow around september so i took a gig working over night at a Toys R Us, it sucked but i was getting 50 plus hours a week. I was hired on as a seasonal so i knew there was a chance i would get let go. My boss assured me that i would be kept on after the holidays. I went to pick up my check 2 weeks ago and they said that they didn't need me anymore. So now until it gets nicer out i'm working at Dunkin Dounuts. Just keep looking man you'll find something.

Being laid off blows, After 8 years working for a Harley dealer I got laid off. I guess when your boss whats you to do the wrong thing you should just shut up and do the wrong thing and hope somebody dosent get hurt. My bad.
