Bike won't maintain same idle.

Ok everyone I've got an '80 GS550 with Mikuni BS32's. Once warm it Idles fine. Not sure of the rpm since there is no tach but it sounds right. If I go riding for a few minutes when I come to a stop the idle is too low. I'll adjust it up a bit and continue on then the next time I stop its too high. Never wants to stay in the same spot. The carbs were cleaned a few months ago by me, replaced the o rings in the carbs and intake boots. Ive sprayed the boots checking for leaks and haven't noticed any. Maybe I forgot something to do with the carbs?

Does your throttle operate smoothly? it could be sticking just enough to keep your idle up sometimes. Try marking the cable and opening/closing the throttle a few times. I would try easing it off slowly and letting it close fast.

Cheers

When was the last time the valves were checked? And you said you replaced the orings IN the carbs and the intake boots themselves, but what about the orings between the boots and cylinder head?

Throttle operates smoothly. Had to install shorter cables due to the clip ons. As for the valves there's no telling. That was my next step. Yes I replaced the o rings between the boots and head.
