There is no primary drive chain, the big gear on crank drives the clutch which is the actual primary drive
Yamaha call the Alternator drive chain the primary drive chain, weird Japanese translation, but, I worked in a Yamaha dealers for years so got used to most of it
You need to look at STARTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY, I forgot starter clutch is on the opposite end of generator shaft

Get a close up picture of the hyvo chain, I'm pretty sure it's OK but the starter clutch is probably bad, the rollers and ramps wear, the bolts come loose, part nos, 6, 10, 15
