Finally getting down to rebuilding/Improving my Dad's old BSA A50. Pulling the Engine out of the frame this weekend and am trying to figure out what the best course of action is. Background info:
The Bike has been sitting in a leaky old shed for the better part of 20 yrs and has seen better days. That said, it could be worse. No serious rust, but the wheels will need a re-chrome or paint as the chrome is done. As for the Engine, its not running at the moment but it kicks over so the pistons are not seized.
Since it'll kick over smoothly, Im wondering if I should bother cracking the engine open to check on everything or if I should just try and start it and see what happens. Personally I think it'll be worth opening up for no other reason than replacing any/all gaskets. But Im a beginner/novice at most engine related issues so I thought I'd post up and see what the concensus is.
Either way Im anxious to get my hands dirty!
