Hi,

I need to buy some new bulbs for my bike. For the tail light, I need a 6V 32/3CP bulb. For the turn signals, I need 6V 17W.

What I'd like to know is: For the tail light, what does 32/3CP stands for?

Also, for the turn signals, I found some 6V 8W bulbs, are they going to work on my bike? I guess if they require less wattage they should work?

Thanks

Some handy math for vintage bike owners, its called OHM's Law

Volts x Amps = WATTS

6 volt bulb at 17 watts will pull almost 3 amps 6 volt bulb at 8 watts pulls a little over 1 amp. That means you can save some of the work the charging system does lighting bulbs and it can use that to charge the battery. Those bulbs will be roughly half the LIGHT output though, they will not be as bright. If they are not too $$$ get a set of both and see which you like better. Remember its better to be seen than not.

The taillight bulb is a dual element, 32 watts for HIGH or break light, 3 watts for low or running.

You might also consider finding some 6v LED replacement bulbs. They will be brighter and draw less amperage both. I converted my bike completely to LED's. With all of the lights on, including the high beam, the lighting system only draws a single amp.

Keep in mind if you go with lower wattage or LED bulbs for your indicators you will probably need a different flasher relay to make them work.

Thanks for the answer.

In fact, I am looking for new lights for esthetics reasons. I found some lights (tail light and turn signals) for sale but they have different wattage than the stock ones on my bike.

Id like to know if most bulbs have the same socket so I could just change for the right bulb to have the light?

CP is candlepower, the brightness....

Typical stop/tailight bulb is 27 watts for the brake, 8 watts for the running light. The CP and watts are close....but still different.
